The Expo 250 showcased some of Kentucky’s best players. Players were looking to get exposure to collegiate coaches and evaluators. They came out displaying why they should be considered for college scholarships. Lets take a look at the top combo guards at the Expo 250.
Cade Hilt Cade Hilt 6'2" | CG Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2023 State KY – 2022- Dunbar- The more and more I see Cade play, the more his game grows on me. Hilt has great athleticism and strength. His handles helps him get by defenders. His strength helps him takes bumps and shed defenders. If he gets a step on you…watch your head he is dunking it! Cade has the ability to finish with both hands around the basket. He can also make shots from the outside. At about 6’3″ he will make a good combo guard at the next level. With his size and athleticism, I would like to see him transition into more of a point guard. If so he could really set his self apart from the pack in my opinion.
Christian Spaulding- 2022- Eastern HS- Christian is one the best in the 2022 class. He can get it done on both ends of the floor. Spaulding can score at a high clip while getting his teammates involved. He is a big time rebounder as well. At 6″3″ he punishes smaller guards with his ability to post them up. A guard his size he has the handles to break them down. Christian has the mindset to show night in and night out why he is the best in his class on both ends. Not too many two way players anymore, but he is a good one!
Mason Shirley Mason Shirley 6'1" | PG Allen County-Scottsville | 2021 State KY – 2021- Allen County Scottsville- What caught my eye about Mason was his competitive nature. He took on a few challenges to guard some of the top players on the other teams. He did a really good job at defending. Not only did he defend, but he attacked them on the offensive end. Mason, has good handles and a strong looking build. He gave his all in every game I watched him play in. He is a player that coaches like in their program.
KeAndre Nelson- 2021- Newport- Every time I looked up KeAndre was getting in the lane to finish. His size and strength was too much for some of the players guarding him. He can handle the basketball which allows for him to get around defenders and play bully ball with smaller guards. He has a nice shot also. I would like to see him shoot more mid range shots. He looked to be about 6’4″ and handled the ball a lot during the Expo.
Isaiah Hutchison- 2022- Beth Haven Christian- Isaiah played with a competitive fire every game. He caught my eye by how hard he ran the floor. He scored a lot of points just by sprinting the floor. He showed the ability to get to the basket off the dribble. He sat down and played defense. He had a different kind of energy while he played. He set out to prove something and I think he accomplished that.
Tyleik Maxwell- 2023- Frederick Douglass- Tyleik is a very solid guard. He has good athleticism and speed. He plays hard on both ends of the floor. He is tough in transition with his speed. Maxwell has a good shot. He handles the ball well. He has a quiet demeanor on the court but game can be explosive. He is a player to watch for in a loaded 2023 class.
