The high school basketball season in West Virginia is right around the corner. At the end of each season the Bill Evans Award is given to the person chosen as the best high school boys basketball player in the state of West Virginia. The award winner is selected by members of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. The award has been given annually since 1970. Let’s take a look at some of the guys who are going to be in the running for the Evans Award this upcoming season.
McKneely finished his sophomore year averaging 22 points per game. He has a smooth and consistent jumper with textbook balance, whether he’s pulling up, spotting up or shooting off movement. This class of 2022 prospect is on the top of many high majors want lists. He currently holds 18 division I offers and is ranked as a Top 10 SG in the country for his class.
Aiden Satterfield Aiden Satterfield 6'6" | SG Charleston Catholic | 2021 State WV – 6’6/G – Charleston Catholic
Satterfield finished his junior year as the Class A First Team All-State Captain while averaging 19 points per game. His ability to attack the rim and guard almost any position on the floor makes him a valuable player. He currently is committed to play for division II powerhouse West Liberty University in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Mason Pinkett Mason Pinkett 6'2" | SG George Washington | 2021 State WV – 6’1/G – George Washington
Pinkett finished his junior year as a Class AAA First Team All-State member while averaging 17 points per game. His elite handle and ability to knock down tough jumpers off dribble separate his game from a lot of players.
Chandler Schmidt Chandler Schmidt 6'1" | CG Cabell Midland | 2022 State WV – 6’1/G – Cabell Midland
Schmidt finished his junior year as a Class AAA First Team All-State member while averaging 18 points per game. His quick change of pace and court awareness to go along with his three level scoring ability make him tough to guard.
Jaelin Johnson Jaelin Johnson 6'5" | SF Fairmont Senior | 2021 State WV – 6’4/F – Fairmont Senior
Johnson finished his junior year as a Class AA First Team All-State member while averaging 20 points per game. He is one of the most athletic players in the state. His defense and ability to finish through contact is second to none.
