Keep in mind, it’s impossible for me to see every moment, of every athlete, in every game played. This is strictly relegated to what I witnessed and some input from coaches.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Jaxon Childers (G/F, Benzie Central)
Childers had the looks of a varsity ready player as a freshman. He understood the game and found ways to contribute. Childers was more than willing and able to play whatever role was needed when he was on the floor.
William Dee (PG, Rochester Adams)
First off, the kid is small, and he will need to add muscle over the years. But let’s end that right there. Dee can flat out play the game. He has outstanding court vision and was dropping dimes for passes all afternoon. Not to mention, he couldn’t be left alone behind the arc.
Bryce O’Mara (PF, Grand Blanc)
He was the biggest incoming freshman that I saw at the showcase. He had to battle some tough older players in the paint, and he didn’t back down. As O’Mara develops physically, his game will follow. I liked what I saw as far as his upside as a prospect.
MOP
Daniel Smythe (SG, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)
This young man just didn’t look like a freshman. I don’t know his stats from the event, and I don’t really care about them. In showcases, it can be tough for incoming freshman to not be like a deer in headlights. Smythe was not. He felt the flow of the game and reacted to it in a high basketball IQ type manner. Smythe looks like an impact player in the coming years.
