They may venture outside the lane once in awhile, but their domain is the paint where they like it and are very effective. Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at some of the top low-post players in the Class of 2021.
Karter Koenig Karter Koenig 6'6" | PF Westran | 2021 State MO 6’6″ Westran: A big physical southpaw post who has a basic meat and potatoes game inside and is very effective at it. He can post up strong and he catches the ball tough and scores pretty well with a nice drop step. I was impressed with his play at the Prep Hoops #GrindSzn Kickoff in Oklahoma.
Josh Robinson Josh Robinson 6'9" | PF Cardinal Ritter | 2021 State MO 6’8″ Cardinal Ritter: A physical post player who was injured for much of his junior season, but came back down the stretch to help the Lions win a Class 3 state title. He holds his position well inside and is very difficult to keep off the offensive boards. He is a strong finisher in the paint with the ability to throw down dunks in traffic. He already has a Division I offer from Louisiana-Monroe.
Lance Hackney Lance Hackney 6'7" | PF Lutheran St Charles | 2021 State MO 6’7″ Lutheran-St. Charles: A robust post player who is strong and mobile around the basket, which enables him to become a strong offensive rebounder. He has a nice jump hook over the left shoulder and he can score with both hands inside with equal effectiveness.
Lucas Morrison Lucas Morrison 6'9" | PF Salem | 2021 State MO 6’9″ Salem: A massive post player who knows how to use his size and strength to operate around the basket. He gives a nice target when he seals his defender and has a soft pair of hands and nice shooting touch. He can also step out to the high post and hit 15-footers. He plays solid position defense and he will block his share of shots.
John Wilson John Wilson 6'6" | PF St. Charles West | 2021 State MO 6’6″ St. Charles West: An excellent football prospect as a two-way lineman who brings that size and strength to good use on the basketball court. As a junior, he shot 60 percent from the field while averaging 14 points and eight rebounds a game. He has a nice drop step and a very good jump hook to score buckets and he will also pass the ball out of a double team.
Jordan Mertens Jordan Mertens 6'7" | PF DeSoto | 2021 State MO 6’8″ De Soto: A solid post player who has done a nice job of building up his body over the course of his career. He was rather thin as a freshman, but he now as a nice, strong frame which he uses well to mix it up inside and crash the offensive boards. As a junior, he averaged 13 points, 8.4 rebounds and two blocks a game.
Tyce Laubinger Tyce Laubinger 6'10" | C Park Hills Central | 2021 State MO 6’10″ Park Hills Central: A large post who has made excellent strides over the course of his career. He has become quite a presence on the defensive end and can rebound the ball very effectively. His mobility around the basket as also improved as he has become a better finisher. He has already received a couple of Division III offers.
