Moving On: Guard Noah Van Stedum and center Zach Witte Zach Witte 6'7" | C SF Christian | 2020 State SD were the two senior starters for the Chargers last year. Witte was an all league, all state level player while Van Stedum was a shooter and a ball handler meaning he fit the combo guard role. Sixth man Carson Van Beek Carson Van Beek 5'11" | PG SF Christian | 2020 State SD also graduated meaning the Chargers have to replace half the players that logged double figures minutes last season.
Returning Starters: The Chargers have three starters back: 6-foot-3 guard Tyler Prins Tyler Prins 6'3" | SF Sioux Falls Christian | 2021 State SD , 6-foot-4 forward Noah Van Donkersgoed Noah Van Donkersgoed 6'5" | PF Sioux Falls Christian | 2021 State SD , and 6-foot-1 guard Xavier Van Beek Xavier Van Beek 6'0" | SG Sf Christian | 2021 State SD . Van Beek was the number two option at times last year and now he will move into a position where a lot of the offense will go through him. Van Donkersgoed was another main scoring option last year and was at times a total stat stuffer. Then you have Prins who was one of the most active players on the squad. All three players can shoot at the arc and all three move the ball with patience and intelligence. In other words, all three of the returning starters – who are all seniors – know how to play winning basketball.
Reserves Playing a Bigger Role: The junior class will supply the Chargers with two more starters and a couple of the reserve talents. Five-foot-11 guard Tyson Reitsma was a deep bench reserve last year and is likely to step into a bigger reserve role. Two of the main three of the bench a year ago were 6-2 wing Brooks Nelson Brooks Nelson 6'3" | SF SF Christian | 2022 State SD and 6-foot-3 190 pound forward Jaden Witte, and one or both is likely to start this year. Nelson is a hard working active player while Witte has the offensive skills that will fit right in with the returning starters. So who will play center? The hope to fill that role is 6-foot-8 Nathan Koole Nathan Koole 6'8" | C SF Christian | 2022 State SD , a reserve big from last year’s team. Koole has shown he can rebuild in solid numbers, now they need him to do it in long periods of time.
Potentials from the JV: A player to watch very close is sophomore Tate Snyder Tate Snyder 6'0" | PG Sioux Falls Christian | 2023 State SD , the freshman that played on JV last season. Snyder is your traditional kid, plays point guard in the winter, plays quarterback in the fall. He’s 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds and could be a help in terms of ball handling this year.
