The goal of the event was to get kids back in the gym in a grassroots setting, and provide a live steam to college coaches to be able to evaluate the talent in a structured environment.
The event had 12 teams and was loaded with talent, so doing the standouts in just one article simply isn’t possible. Here’s a look at part one of the 2023 and 2024 standouts, featuring five guys to keep an eye on.
John St. Germain John St. Germain 6'2" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State VA | 6’0” PG | CBG 434 2023
We got a really good look at St. Germain, who confirmed my suspicions that he is the best 2023 point guard in the state of Virginia. He is as skilled a point guard as any, regardless of class, and he showed it as he got where he wanted off the bounce, ran the pick-and-roll well and showed he can make shots from all over the floor. He knows the game and can run a team, and he’s set to make a name for himself this year.
Dennis Parker Dennis Parker 6'6" | SF John Marshall | 2023 State #89 Nation VA Jr. | 6’6” F | CBG Blue Magic 2023
Parker is the guy in the 2023 class in VA, and he showed why as he has a unique and well rounded game that give him the ability to make an impact in a number of ways. He’s an excellent passer at his size, and he can handle and see over people to deliver passes. He’s athletic and attacks the rim hard, he can guard multiple positions and he rebounds really well too.
Carter Lang Carter Lang 6'9" | C St. Anne's Belfield | 2023 State #199 Nation VA | 6’9” C | CBG 434 2023
Lang is a very intriguing prospect because of his size, but also because he keeps getting better every time I see him. He played extremely confident on Sunday, showing his ability to make shots over guys from multiple angles and he rebounded the ball extremely well on both ends. If he continues to grow as a player he could easily see plenty of college coaches coming to him soon.
Josh Sime Josh Sime 6'8" | PF Western Albemarle | 2023 State VA | 6’7” PF | CBG 434 2023
Sime is a guy who impressed by doing what he does well and bringing a blue collar mentality to his group. When he was teamed up with Lang, they both protected the paint and dominated it on both ends of the floor, blocking shots and rebounding extremely well. He’s very long and active, he has soft touch in the paint and he can stretch the floor, and he’s only going to get better with time.
Chance Mallory | 5’1” PG | CBG 434 2024
A guard who is on the smaller side but makes a big impact, it’s really hard not to like Mallory because he plays the game the right way and is highly skilled as well. He shoots the ball at a high clip, he jumps passing lanes and has quick hands defensively and despite his size he isn’t afraid to go at anyone. He played a good amount as an eighth grader for STAB last year and will look to have an even bigger year this year.
