Continue ReadingSaturday I made the trip to Erlanger to watch the early part of the Camp One high school preview where 2023 and 2024 prospects went through drill work and played several games over the course of 6 hours. Here’s a look at some of the top Sophomores at the event.
Gianni Davis, Trinity – In my first time seeing Davis, I left impressed. He doesn’t do any one thing exceptionally well but is a complete player who did a little bit of everything over the course of the day. Capable of playing on or off the ball, Gianni should have a chance to help a Trinity team that could use more playmaking this season.
Maxwell White, Cooper – White is probably best labeled as a “tweener” as he has the bigger body of a small post player but showed the skills of a wing player but doesn’t have outstanding foot speed. Maxwell had a very good showing in the afternoon games as he made smart plays and played hard throughout. Look for him to be a contributor for Cooper this season.
Sam Parrish Sam Parrish 6'0" | PG George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY , Tates Creek – One of the better athletes in the event, Parrish is best labeled as a combo guard right now. He threw some beautiful passes early in the day but as the camp wore on, he settled for long jumpers and over-dribbled at times. Tates Creek is going to be in desperate need of playmakers this season and you should expect Parrish to play with the ball in his hands a lot.
Teagan Moore, Owen County – A week after having a strong showing at our Top 250 Expo, Moore again made his case that we overlooked him in our 2023 rankings. Teagan is wired to score at a high level. He’s not going to overwhelm anyone with athleticism but he’s not un-athletic. Look for him to keep putting up big scoring numbers. He held his own all day against some top 2023 and 24 competition.
Trent Hinkle Trent Hinkle 5'11" | PG Western | 2023 State KY , Western – One of the shiftiest guards in the camp, Trent has also shown that he can shoot the ball, especially with a clean look. I always hate to be the guy who says “if he grows…” but if Hinkle grows, he’s going to be a scholarship level player and be battle tested as a multiple year starter in Louisville where every game can be a battle and the city is full of tough lead guards.
Cameron Boyd, Beechwood – Another northern Kentucky kid who came from off the radar to impress on Saturday, Boyd looks like he could be the next man up at Beechwood as the Tigers will graduate a ton of talent this season and be looking at a rebuild next year. Cameron is a talented scorer who is best described as “solid” all the way around. He wasn’t super flashy Saturday but you can see the potential he has to be a top player in the 9th region this time next season.
