The Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp is the kind of event that young prospects want to attend. It gives scouts, and evaluators an opportunity to track their progress early at the beginning of their high school experience. Here’s a list of top performers in the 2024 class.
Jamari Phillips 6’2 Guard Modesto Christian( Modesto, CA)
Phillips is showing signs he could be one of NorCals top 2024 prospects. He’s been playing good basketball throughout out the summer at other out of state events. His exceptional play continued at this event. He played in the Top 30 Game, the only prospect in the class of 2024 chosen from NorCal. He plays with confidence and has the tools to become an instant impact. Good handles, a willing passer, knocks down the open shots, and does a good job directing the offense when called upon.
Ty Virgil 6’2 Guard, Franklin (Elk Grove, CA)
Virgil played in the Top 75 game two weeks ago, then made the Top 50 game a week later. Virgil has a good skill set, a calm demeanor in his approach to the game, and doesn’t get caught up in the moment as some Freshman might. He has good handles and speed with the ball, good vision to go with excellent passing. His 3pt range makes him a solid around performer in this class.
Amari Davis 6’6 Wing, Grant Union (Sacramento, CA)
Davis has good size and mobility, he looked to take open shots from behind the 3 pt line. He spotted up in the corner for three’s, hit a couple of in rhythm 3’s in transition. Right now Davis looks as though he’s comfortable playing on the wings and perimeter. He’ll have to improve his shot making from the outside, and his handles on the drive to the basket. never the less, he played his way into the Top 60 Game. A 6’6, 2024 prospect to keep and eye on in NorCal.
Benjamin Roseborough 6’3 Guard, St. Hope Charter (Sacramento, Ca)
Roseborough looks fit and ready. He has the size, strength, and skills to be scorer as a Freshman on his varsity team. His handles and physical strength allowed him to get to the basket for buckets on multiple occasions. He plays with balance and scored in a variety of ways, spin moves, 2 feet or 1, he moves without the ball, and cut well towards the basket. He played in the Top 60 Game, he was one of 3 from NorCal. Wright’s watch list.
Brandon Gibson Jr 6’1 Guard, Monterey Trail (Elk Grove, CA)
Gibson Jr. has a solid body for a Freshman, with a long wingspan, he brings good energy to the court, has a decent set of handles, a good first step, and some strength he uses to get in the paint. He’s a willing passer on the drive, and can be a strong finisher. Once he relaxed he started to show more of an upside. He has a decent mid-range jumper, and showed good defensive qualities at times.
Michael Lewis Jr. 6’2 Guard, St. Mary’s (Berkeley, CA)
Lewis played steady ball at this event, he showed a good understanding of the game. He plays with good pace and balance. Lewis found a way to be effective. A decent skill set, his finishes around the basket were consistent, he hit pull up jumpers off the dribble, and showed good open court moves that froze defenders. He led the break and delivered good solid passes. He has good hands.
Thurmond Thorpe 6’1 Guard, Mountain House (CA)
Thorpe is a physical player with upper body strength that allows him to take it into the lane and power up off two feet and finish through contact. He has a good jumper in the key, and passes well. Thorpe defends aggressively on the perimeter and will challenge shots on who ever he’s guarding. He’s a good rebounding guard at 6’1.
