With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top guards from the big schools in Section 4
Tre Holloman Tre Holloman 6'2" | PG Cretin-Derham Hall | 2022 State #57 Nation MN , Cretin-Derham Hall
Holloman, for my money, is the best player in Minnesota’s 2022 class. The 6-foot-2 point guard is a positive driving force on both ends of the floor and has a knack for giving his team exactly what it needs, exactly when it needs it. He’s excellent on the defensive end of the floor, bringing great energy to the point of attack. He is one of the best pure passers in the state and gets to the rim as well as anybody. And his ability to control the tempo allows him to influence the game at a high level.
Kendall Blue Kendall Blue 6'6" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State #242 Nation MN , East Ridge
Blue was the No. 2 guy at East Ridge last year and showed why he’s one of the best prospects in the 2022 class. He’ll be the man for the Raptors this winter, and at 6-foot-6, he’s got the skill and opportunity to put up monster overall numbers. He’s a good defender who can defend at least three positions plus rebound and push. He’s a solid long-range shooter and has a slithery ability to get into the paint and make plays.
Jack Janicki Jack Janicki 6'4" | SG White Bear Lake | 2023 State #277 Nation MN , White Bear Lake
Janicki is one of the state’s best 2023 prospects and looks like a guy with a bright future. He’s got good size on the wing and has a smooth, complete offensive repertoire. He’s a terrific shooter off the catch, can create his shot off the dribble, finish around the rim and make plays in complementary fashion. Expect him to put up huge numbers for a White Bear Lake team that hopes to be competitive in the Suburban East.
Hercy Miller Hercy Miller 6'3" | PG Minnehaha Academy | 2021 State MN , Minnehaha Academy
Miller wasted little time acclimating himself to the Minnehaha lineup last winter, emerging as one of the team’s top perimeter playmakers. He’ll have a big opportunity this winter to have the ball in his hands leading another loaded Redhawks squad and with his combination of size, athleticism and skill, don’t be surprised if he puts up big numbers for a team that contends for a state title.
Taison Chatman Taison Chatman 6'4" | PG Totino Grace | 2023 State #35 Nation MN , Totino-Grace
Chatman is by most accounts, the top prospect in the 2023 class. At 6-foot-3, Chatman has a great blend of length, quickness and basketball smarts. He’s smooth off the bounce and can get to the rim with ease. He’s a decent perimeter shooter who can get hot in spurts and his ability to put pressure on the ball creates transition opportunities for him and his teammates.
Bradley Cimperman Bradley Cimperman 6'5" | SG Woodbury | 2021 State MN , Woodbury
Cimperman was excellent for Woodbury last winter, averaging 15 points per game as a junior. He’s a big guard who can rebound and push, and he’s strong with or without the ball in his hands. He’s a terrific shooter off the catch or the bounce and his ability to use that gravity to get into gaps and make plays makes him a tough guy for teams to defend.
Donnavin Hinsz Donnavin Hinsz 6'6" | PF Columbia Heights | 2022 State MN , Columbia Heights
Hinsz is bringing quite a hype train from Moorhead after a terrific summer showing on the grassroots circuit. He’s a big, athletic guard who dominates people with his physicality and skill. He can get to the paint against anybody and finish in traffic at a high level. He’s a solid defender and capable of guarding multiple positions. Expect big things from the junior this winter.
