It also featured some high-level play at the PG position. In this article, PH takes a look at the top point guards from the event.
Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV 6’1 PG Las Vegas 2022 (#4PHN 2022) (featured image) – The stock continues to rise for the talented PG. Jackson was impossible to stay in front of and at the Expo his outside shot was falling. The combination of those two traits allowed him to put up buckets in a hurry. He made the game look easy for not only himself but for the players playing with him.
Isiah Hicks 5’10 PG San Marcos 2021 – Hicks did a good job of dominating from 15 feet in. He either got all the way to the bucket or pulled up at the foul line to burry his mid-range jumper. He displayed a solid handle and when the defense did collapse on his drives he was able to find the open man.
Garrett Rogers Garrett Rogers 5'11" | PG Columbine | 2021 State CO 5’11 PG Columbine 2021 (#84PHC 2021) – Rogers impressed all day. His shooting was nice, and he played the game with the type of handle and feel that you want from a PG. The cerebral PG toyed with defenders keeping them deciding whether to close out on his deadly jumper or give him space on the drive. He was one of the best players I saw at the expo, with the ability to show the ball and use 1 dribble to create space for his shot.
Anthony Pittman Anthony Pittman 6'0" | PG Bishop Gorman | 2022 State NV 6’0 PG Bishop Gorman 2022 (#50PHN 2022) – Pittman was the best on-ball defender at the camp. In addition to that, he has started to demonstrate the ability to get by anyone he wants to off the bounce. Pittman showed a terrific burst and the ability to get to the rim with 2 dribbles or less. The new skill that he showed off was his 3 point shooting, as he nailed several top of the key 3’s.
Roman King 5’8 PG Mountain Pointe 2022 – “Shorty Nice” I have to concur with what one of his coaches said. King had the best wiggle of any guard at the camp. As soon as the ball touched his hands, you could see him measuring up his defender and preparing to attack. His COD was good and his change of pace was crazy. The spin into the no-look dime that he pulled off kept the entire bench buzzing.
AJ Turner AJ Turner 5'11" | PG Skyline Prep | 2023 State AZ 5’11 PG Higley 2023 (#46PHA 2023) – Turner jumped out both on film and when I saw him live. Every time I looked up the PG was making a play. He plays with a high motor, showed a quick crossover and a knack for getting to the bucket. Turner has good speed and showed a quick first jump when competing for rebounds and challenging shots.
Lareon Ginnis Lareon Ginnis 5'9" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2022 State AZ 5’9 PG South Mountain (#26PHA 2022) – Ginnis could probably challenge Pittman as one of the top defenders at the camp. He just scrapped and fought for everything. Max second effort guy refused to give up on plays. On offense Ginnis was all downhill, keeping pressure on the defense with his speed and quickness with the ball in his hand.
