This report focuses on the top scorers we saw on the weekend:
Nick Herrmann Nick Herrmann 6'2" | SG Torrey Pines | 2021 State CA-S , 6-2 2021 G, Gamepoint 17u Elite
Hermmann has a nose for the basket, especially in transition where he gets downhill and makes solid finishes through and around defenders. In the halfcourt, he is a knockdown shooter off the catch and can consistently knock down one- to two-dribble pull-ups.
Kwinten Crenshaw, 6-1 2022 G, Prime 16u Elite
Crenshaw, a recent transfer to Etiwanda from Rancho Cucamonga, performed well in a couple of losses. He’s hard nosed, competes every possession, and scores it effectively out of the pick-and-roll, either by attacking the basket or terminating drives in the mid-range and hitting floaters or jump shots over shot blockers. His shooting range extends beyond the college three.
Lejuan Watts, 6-5 2022 W, Stanco Stampede
We touched on Watts before in a previous report, but his ability to score the rock from three levels can’t go understated. A powerfully built wing who blends “bully” and skill quite well.
Ringo Aguek, 6-6 2021 W, Arizona PAL
A long, slender wing type, Aguek feasted on the competition in the games I saw Saturday morning, knifing his way to the basket for crafty finishes in the halfcourt and emphatic transition slams. He is a solid catch-and-shoot threat from the corner three to boot, projecting to be 3-and-D type at the next level.
Wayne McKinney Wayne McKinney 5'10" | PG Coronado | 2021 State CA-S , 6-0 2021 G,Coastal Elite Slayers
McKinney made his living getting into the paint, using an elite first step to blow by defenders, and his strong upper body strength to absorb contact and finish or get to the foul line. He’s a streaky three-point shooter, but very capable of stringing together makes in a hurry.
Christian Gamboa, 6-3 2021 G, West Coast Flight
Gamboa carved up teams this weekend from midrange and in the paint. He’s an athletic combo guard who is wired to score, especially when he gets to his right hand.
