Hosted by recruiting legend Gerry Freitas, the event featured teams from Washington, California, Arizona and Idaho. It also featured several guys willing to sacrifice their bodies for the good of the team. In this article PH takes a look at the top high motor athletes from the event.
Lukas Broadsword 6’6 SF Idaho Premier 2021 (#18PHI 2021) – Did everything you could possible do on the defensive end to impact a game. Broadsword guarded perimeter players, post players, and everything in between. He grabbed defensive rebounds and was first to the floor for nearly every loose ball.
Darric Blockman 5’8 PG 509 Elite 2021 – Blockman is a tough kid that is willing to stick his nose in. He dove on the floor, took charges and battled against larger guards looking for post up opportunities. Heady floor general, Blockman was one of the toughest players pound for pound on the court.
Martin Gumwel Martin Gumwel 6'11" | C Rancho Christian | 2023 State CA-S 6’11 C Gamepoint Elite 2023 (featured image) – The young big man plays with an effort and energy that’s pleasing to watch. He probably still has floor burns from his head first dives on the floor. He could easily relax and rest on the fact that he’s nearly 7 feet tall, instead you’ll find Gumwel doing the dirty work to help his squad win.
Lewis Singletary 5’11 PG Gamepoint Elite 2022 – Singletary is a tough son of a gun. Took on ball defense personally all weekend and was the first to almost every loose ball. Very few 50/50’s with Singletary as he won almost every chase to the loose ball.
Abraham Oyeadier 6’10 C Supreme Court 2024 – Learn the name of Oyeadier now. The young big man does not move a muscle without exuding energy. He post up hard, rebounds everything and will sacrifice his body for loose balls. We can discuss his offense in a different article, but when it comes to effort very few bigs play with more than Oyeadier.
Otto Landrum Otto Landrum 6'8" | PF Torrey Pines | 2022 State CA-S 6’9 PF Gamepoint Elite 2022 (#49PHSC) – I can’t tell if Landrum feeds off of Gumwel of if it’s the other way around. Either way Landrum played with a relentless passion. He hedged ball screens hard, sacrificed his body and seemed to grab every defensive rebound on the day. Must be something in the water, but the GP bigs play hard!
Craig Ward 6’4 SG Lions Truth 2021 – I only saw Ward once, but it was enough to realize what I had. First to the floor type that competed and won more than his share of 50/50’s on the day.
