Hosted by recruiting legend Gerry Freitas, the event featured teams from Washington, California, Arizona and Idaho. It also featured some high level student athletes. In this article PH takes a look at the top High Academic players from the camp.
Donovan Dent Donovan Dent 6'1" | PG Corona Centennial | 2022 State CA-S 6’1 PG Prime 2022 (#27PHSC 2022) – Dent showed off an amazing skill set this weekend. As impressive as his passing and defense was, his 3.8 GPA is even more impressive. A mid to high major guy who would fit right in both on the court and in the classroom at any Ivy League institution.
Devon Arlington Devon Arlington 6'3" | PG San Marcos | 2022 State CA-S 6’4 PG Gamepoint 2022 (#12PHSC 2022) – It’s not flashy but it’s efficient. Arlington was one of the best performers on the weekend. A cerebral leader, it comes as no surprise that he excels in the classroom. Arlington is a 3.8 student that holds offers from Colorado St, Oregon St and New Mexico to name a few.
Caleb Nelson Caleb Nelson 6'7" | SF Carlsbad | 2021 State CA-S 6’6 SF Coastal Elite Slayers 2021 (#58PHNC 2021) (featured image) – Nelson is one of the most versatile players on the west coast. The 6’6 wing can defend 3,4,and 5’s. On the offensive end, his shooting and slashing ability along with his size, qualifies him as a prototypical wing. There is nothing prototypical about his academic prowess as he sports a 3.96 GPA.
John Connolly 6’6 SF Team Build Up 2021 – Connolloy didn’t have his best shooting weekend, but that only highlighted his ability to impact the game from the neck up. The 6’6 wing is an amazing student that rocks a 4.5 GPA. Not surprisingly, he has been sought after by several high academic universities.
Jeremiah Calhoun 6’3 SG Team Eleate 2022 – Calhoun slashed his way to the bucket at will this weekend, showing how he was able to lead his High School team in scoring as a sophomore. He also showed why several UC schools are looking at him and his 3.8 GPA.
Leonard Romayor 5’9 Legion of Hoops 2023 (#71PHA 2023) – Cerebral PG that understands the nuisances of the game at a high level and a young age. Romayor has a good understanding of offensive basketball, as well as what it takes to be successful in the classroom. His 3.8 GPA makes him an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on.
McKay Anderson 6’0 PG Idaho Premiere 2021 (#17PHI 2021) – Anderson is probably getting selected last in any pick up game. Then he’s going to spend the next hour making everyone regret their decision. The sniper is an all-around student athlete that carries a 4.0 GPA.
Solomon Little 6’3 PG Supreme Court 2021 – Little may be the most underrated student athlete on the west coast. The PG has spent this summer holding his own against some of the toughest competition the West coast has to offer. When he’s not battling on the court, you can probably find him in the classroom. Universities should be salivating, as he will be bringing a 4.0 GPA and 1300 SAT to the campus.
