In this report we look at players who are peaking at the right time in their development, the late bloomers
Jordan Webster, 6-3 SG, Gamepoint 16u Elite
The Concord De La Salle guard is not one of the 70 players we have ranked in Nor-Cal’s 2022 class. Partly because just a year ago he was a 5-10 1/2 inch guard. Now standing near 6-4 with a wiry frame that suggests he is nowhere near done growing, Webster looks like the prototypical shooting guard. He has great length and knocks down shots from three off the catch. But what is really intriguing are his rapidly improving ball skills and playmaking in transition.
Isaiah Brickner, 6-4.5 G, West Coast Flight
Brickner has been known for his explosive athleticism (which he displayed in a five-dunk first half in his first game), but it’s the rapidly improving feel at the point that makes him an intriguing unsigned prospect. Brickner is playing with better pace and makes nice reads in the drive and kick and pick-and-roll, and had several nifty no-look passes in the halfcourt. Playing for one of the premier HS programs in San Diego (St. Augustine), Brickner should play his way into scholarship offers.
Christian Littlejohn, 6-6 F, Gamepoint 17u Select
Littlejohn is a prospect that immediately catches your eye when he takes the floor. He has a long, wiry frame, gets off the ground quickly and is an athletic finisher around the game. There are times when he lacks assertiveness (especially on the boards), and doesn’t play with great effort, but when engaged, you see flashes of very high upside. Might need a couple of years of JUCO to put it together.
Brody Rowbury, 7-0 C, Idaho Premier
If I am a D1 program that can afford to redshirt Rowbury and give him a year to get his body in order, I would snag this mountain of a basketball player in a hurry. Rowbury has soft hands, nice touch around the basket and can shoot out to the college three. The areas where he struggles (lack of bounce, lateral athleticism and stamina) are all directly linked to his 300+ pound size. But there’s a player inside there.
Kai Johnson Kai Johnson 6'1" | SG Highland | 2022 State CA-S , 6-4 WF, Team Build Up 17u
Johnson is a very intriguing prospect. On an undersized Build Up team, he is forced to defend opposing forwards and bigs, but Johnson is clearly a wing, and a crafty one at that. He has a very solid midrange game, and while streaky from three, knocked several down from deep on the weekend. His length and defensive IQ peg him to be a 3-and-d prospect at the next level.
