The event is being held at multiple locations around the Phoenix area and features teams from 10U all the way up to 17U. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the Local Standouts from Day 1
Anthony Nwuli Anthony Nwuli 6'5" | PF Durango | 2024 UT 6’5 PF Loyalty VP 2024 (#11PHN 2024) – I’ve always been impressed by the frame and power of the young player. What I learned today, was that he has a terrific ability to pass the basketball. Nwuli delivered several pinpoint passes to teammates from both the high post and a perimeter position. In addition to that, he showed an improved finishing ability around the rim, including finishing with his off-hand. As always his rebounding was there, and was a huge factor in helping his Loyalty VP program to a thrilling last-second victory.
Antonio Burns 5’9 PG Loyalty VP 2025 (featured image) – Give me some more of Antonio Burns. The lefty played with terrific pace and leadership. He’s a young player that demonstrated a high IQ. He showed a great understanding of time, score, and situation as well as the willingness to make the extra pass. He capped off his performance by driving the lane and hitting the game-winning shot.
TJ Brown TJ Brown 5'10" | CG Las Vegas | 2023 NV 5’11 CG Las Vegas Punishers 2023 (#6PHN 2023) – I won’t get into how disappointed I am that I won’t get to see much of the backcourt consisting of Tavionte Jackson Tavionte Jackson 6'1" | PG Las Vegas | 2022 NV , Kentrell Wallace Kentrell Wallace 6'1" | SG Las Vegas | 2021 State NV , and Brown. I will however say, Brown, is on the rise. The Combo guard was impressive today, showing a quick first step along with good finishing ability at the rim.
Marcus Fizer Jr Marcus Fizer Jr 6'6" | SG Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ 6’4 SG Las Vegas Punishers 2023 (#4PHN 2023) – Fizer was good today. Yes, he hit a game-winner, but what impressed me was how he stayed poised and hit big shots when his team needed it most. It’s one thing to take the shot to win the game, but it’s another to be the one willing to take the shot that may lose the game if you miss. Fizer shied away from neither and helped keep the Punishers in position to steal a game.
Brian Townsend 6’2 SF Loyalty VP 2025 – The Chef was cooking today. He was terrific playing downhill and in transition. Townsend is one of the best body seeking finishers in his class, and he did a good job of being physical, but not overly aggessive. The 6’2 wing scored several key buckets to help bring his Loyalty VP squad back and eventually get a win.
