While our Texas-based writers were able to catch the action live, I had to settle for watching camp and all-star games via the Baller TV livestream replays and below is my second set of standouts from the Top 30 Cream of the Crop game.
Robert Jones, Jr., 2023, Braswell (TX): Jones might have been the most polished all-around scoring guard in this event. The 6-foot-3 combo guard has an impressive combination of ball skills, creating space on the perimeter with precise footwork, and a smooth jumper that he can hit from the three-point and mid-range levels. Jones also has the athleticism, body control and strength to finish through and above contact in the painted area.
Dalen Fuller, 2024, Union (OK): Fuller played with high energy throughout the Top 30 all-star game that led to making a ton of impactful plays for his team. The 6-foot-4 wing is great when slashing off the ball both in transition and half-court settings and uses his length well to extend and finish around the basket. Fuller’s speed and movement off the ball allowed him to manufacture paint touches leading to fouls and opportunities at the free throw line.
Doryan Onwuchekwa, 2024, Faith Family Academy (TX): All of the notes I jotted down about Onwuchekwa made reference to how active he was on the offensive and defensive boards. At 6-feet-9, the freshman already had a decent size advantage over the other campers, but it was his high motor and willingness to out-work the opponent that made him such a high-rate rebounder.
Jamyron Keller Jamyron Keller 6'1" | PG Killeen Ellison | 2023 State #154 Nation TX , 2023, Ellison (TX): Keller is a guy who you can count on to always be locked in when he’s on the court. The 6-foot-2 guard has a combination of explosive vertical leaping ability and upper body strength that allow him to finish much bigger than his size. Keller was in constant attack mode throughout this camp and made the most of his transition opportunities.
Deontrell Barrett, 2024, Faith Family Academy (TX): I thought Barrett carried himself with a lot of poise and confidence for such a young point guard prospect. The 6-foot freshman made solid decisions with the ball, didn’t over-handle in transition or half-court settings and showed some floor spreading ability with the catch-and-shoot three-point shot.
