While our Texas-based writers were able to catch the action live, I had to settle for watching camp and all-star games via the Baller TV livestream replays and below are my first set of standouts from the Top 30 Cream of the Crop game.
K. Annor Boateng, 2024, Little Rock Central (AR): Boateng showed a nice all-around feel at the wing position, both offensively and defensively. The rangy 6-foot-5 freshman displayed great instincts when shooting passing lanes for steals to jump start transition opportunities. Boateng made some high IQ decisions on the break when deciding to keep for himself or dish to a teammate for a high percentage bucket. Offensively, Boateng can do a little bit of everything from hit the open perimeter shot to taking his defender off the bounce and to the rim for a finish.
Kenyon Lewis, Jr., 2023, Chapin (TX): Lewis is an intriguing long-term wing prospect because of is versatility on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-4 sophomore showed great interior footwork and touch on his middle game while also popping out and knocking down the face-up perimeter shot. Lewis showed great control and pace in transition and didn’t force the issue offensively.
Prince Oseya, 2024, Premier Academy (TX): While Oseya is still a raw offensive prospect, it was his defensive abilities that landed him in this story. The wiry 6-foot-10 center is mobile when changing ends of the floor, understands defensive rotations, is quick to help on drivers who beat their man off the dribble and closes out to three-point shooters with high hands.
Justin McBride Justin McBride 6'8" | PF Plano | 2023 State #126 Nation TX , 2023, Oak Hill Academy (VA): McBride might have been one of the more talented all-around prospects in the camp. The 6-foot-5 wing is a strong and explosive athlete who uses both of those qualities to overwhelm defenders for paint finishes in both transition and half-court settings. McBride is a smooth shot creator in the open floor where his long strides and creativity with the ball make him a difficult cover. Perhaps McBride’s most intriguing quality is the fact that he plays with great energy on both ends.
Brandon Garrison Brandon Garrison 6'8" | F Del City | 2023 OK , 2023, Del City (OK): Garrison is trending as a really nice power forward/center prospect to keep a close eye on over the next three years. At 6-feet-8 with great length and mobility, Garrison showed that he can serve as a quality traditional post defender, but also switch onto guards and contain in ball-screen action. Garrison was effective when closing out to three-point shooters and forcing them into contested shots. Big men don’t get a whole lot of touches down low in camp settings like this, but Garrison had a couple of great reads and passes out of the post when double teamed.
