Continue ReadingOn a chili day outside in Columbus, these young men went full blown Lil’ Wayne and put the heat on 500 degrees with their hot shooting. The 270 Hoops Proving Grounds always provides viewers with amazing plays, competitive action and great shooting from its participants. This article takes a look at the hoopers that showed the ability to not only shoot from deep, but also mid range jumpers and most importantly, when given the chance, makes their free throw.
Ajay Sheldon Ajay Sheldon 6'2" | PG Dublin Coffman | 2022 State OH ; 2022- Dublin Coffman: Bombs away early to soften them up, then subtle mid range jumpers to finish them off seemed to be the game plan for Sheldon on Sunday afternoon. Sheldon used his sharpshooting skills to give viewers some Sportscenter-like finishes at the rim. Hit a number of catch-and-shoot jumpers from all types of crazy ranges. On fast breaks, Sheldon did a good job of running to a spot on the perimeter and was able to pump fake and hit mid-range jumpers when given that chance. Sheldon also ended most of his teams games with one chance at the free throw line, the most important part of the game.
Zakai Alexander; 2021- Pickerington Central: Of his first five baskets, four were three point makes and that’s all you need to know. Getting into the rhythm of the game was difficult at first for Alexander coming off of injury but once he nailed those shots, he found it. Alexander showed that he can be an adequate catch-and-shoot player into his senior season and beyond. He did not get to display the array of shot making skills he seems to be capable of, but look for that in the regular season. Before his injury, Alexander was an excellent and efficient mid-range jump shooter, and it looks like he is rounding back into form.
Andre Irvin Andre Irvin 5'8" | PG Olentangy Orange | 2021 State OH ; 2021- Olentangy Orange: The toughest shot maker in the building on Sunday was this guy, with numerous jumpers made with a hand in his face. His height did not do him any favors but he was able to create space and nail jumpers that seemed to get deeper and deeper in range. The quick release was the key in getting his shot off despite his size, with nobody being able to block his jumper. In the mid-range he willed in 17-foot jumpers while getting bumped in the air. Irvin played hard every possession and was able to heat up and carry his team to their only victory.
Tyler Kindberg Tyler Kindberg 6'4" | SG Worthington Christian | 2021 State OH ; 2021- Worthington Christian: Kindberg was an interesting study because as amazing of an athlete he was, the shooting display was tremendous. Once the two feet get set, start running down the floor and get ready to take the ball from out of the net. He was most dangerous on the fast break because once he caught the ball at the wing his shooting was dead-eye and if he got past the defender, he was going to dunk on someone. It did not matter where Kindberg caught the ball, he was an immediate threat to pull it and that distorted the defense in many different instances. It is rare that the best shooter in the gym can also drive past and dunk on people as well.
