Here is a look at some of the Wichita-area wings who were the top risers this summer (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed, as well as grad class):
Jaxon Boothe, B2B Elite 16U, Maize, 2024:
A lights-out-shooter, Boothe has range to spare. He is a classic wing shooter, moving without the ball to find openings. He has a quick release and no fear. Boothe was listed this summer as a rising freshman. He will be a player to keep an eye on.
Caleb Brown, TTB KS – Perez 15U, Derby, 2023:
A versatile 6-foot-3 wing, Brown can really get up. He showed the ability to play in the post this summer, but he can also drive from the wing, kick to teammates, or score in a variety of ways. He handles the ball well and is willing to find the open man.
Marcelino Edwards, Perry Ellis 34, Sunrise, 2022:
Like Brown, Edwards can do a lot of things with the ball. He is a dynamic athlete who plays the game with a smoothness that belies his speed and quickness. And at 6-foot-3, he can exploit a lot of advantages. He can shoot from deep, or play in the post.
Kyle Grill Kyle Grill 6'4" | CG Maize | 2022 State KS , Mid Kansas, Maize, 2022:
Younger brother of UNLV guard Caleb Grill, the 6-foot-4 rising junior brings a ton of athleticism to the court. He can flat outrun opponents to the goal, or jump over them. For his height, he has a rare combination of quickness, speed, strength and length. He can shoot from anywhere, but is perhaps at his best going to the goal in the open court.
Logan Libel, B2B Elite, Goddard, 2024:
Libel played on the B2B Elite team that had a lot of players playing up in age. Libel is listed as a 2024 graduate, meaning he has a lot of time to mature into his game. He can shoot from anywhere, and for just 5-foot-10, he’s not afraid to get into the lane. He is a good ball handler who can drive to score or pass. He showed off a good midrange pull up jumper.
Brian Perry, Oz Elite 2023 – Red, Andover Central, 2023:
Perry is an elite athlete who will take his game to another level as a sophomore this year. He has a head for the game and makes smart plays even though he’s moving at lightning speed. Perhaps his top skill is his defense. He has the athleticism to take a top opponent completely out of his game. He can shoot from anywhere, handle the ball and throw down some impressive dunks.
BJ Redic, Oz Elite 2023 – Red, Andover, 2023:
The city of Andover will see some spirited battles between Redic and his summer teammate Perry. Redic is also an elite defender who plays with intensity. Redic intimidates opponents with his fire and aggressiveness. He can drive to score and can direct the offense from the point. At 6-foot-2 he can make a difference at every position on the court, including guarding much bigger opponents.
Eli Shetler, Team Perry Ellis 34, Andover, 2023:
Shetler may be one of the best shooters around. He showed off his quick release and long range this summer. He isn’t just a shooter – he’s athletic and not afraid to battle inside. Though he’s not a big guy, the 6-foot-2 Shetler is solid in the lane.
Wyatt Stover, B2B Elite 16U, Maize, 2024:
Another stud athlete on B2B Elite, Stover is yet another of the club listed as a rising freshman who played up. What he showed most this summer is the ability to run the floor and score a variety of midrange shots. At 6-foot-3, he has versatility and gained a lot of experience playing in a high-speed offense.
