After our series of articles on the Class of 2021 who should be valued, we now shift our attention to those in the Class of 2022 and those that need to be on the radar of college coaches.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these juniors the attention of prospective college coaches.
Levi Telecky – Cedar Valley Christian
Opponents tried their best to take Levi Telecky away when they faced Cedar Valley Christian last year, but the talented Class of 2022 prospect would not let that happen.
Telecky averaged 15 points per game, shooting almost 40 percent from the field with 85 rebounds, 36 steals and 21 assists. He made 16 three-pointers in all.
The “inside” numbers for Telecky could use some improvement, and you would expect them to go up as he gains more experience. Better percentages from both the three-point line and free throw stripe could lead to a 20-point average.
Tyson Scott Tyson Scott 6'1" | PF Lisbon | 2022 State IA – Lisbon
Lisbon’s leader last year was Class of 2022’s Tyson Scott Tyson Scott 6'1" | PF Lisbon | 2022 State IA , as he produced 11 points, almost eight rebounds and over two assists a night.
Scott has the ability to play inside, shooting 57 percent from the field. He also was effective at the free throw line, knocking down 66 percent of his attempts.
If Scott can develop an outside shot, he will attract even more college attention because he is already at that level down low.
Austin Hilmer Austin Hilmer 5'10" | PG North Linn | 2022 State IA – North Linn
The brother of legendary Jake Hilmer, Austin Hilmer Austin Hilmer 5'10" | PG North Linn | 2022 State IA has taken on the role of leader for North Linn. As a sophomore, Hilmer scored 478 points with 214 assists, 96 steals and 82 rebounds, committing just 77 turnovers.
Much like his brother, Hilmer is excellent at directing the offense and finding his own shot. He knocked down 51 three-pointers and made 47 percent of his shots overall from the field.
And just like Jake, Austin committed to Upper Iowa to continue his career. However, he still has two seasons left and with that much time, who knows how much better we could see him get on the court.
Kaiden Gage Kaiden Gage 6'5" | PG East Buchanan | 2022 State IA – East Buchanan
Despite struggles, East Buchanan knew night in and night out they would get production out of Class of 2022 prospect Kaiden Gage Kaiden Gage 6'5" | PG East Buchanan | 2022 State IA . Averaging almost 18 points per game and three assists, Gage shot nearly 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from the three-point line.
Gage finished with 385 points, 111 rebounds, 36 steals and 18 blocks. He made 46 three-pointers, attempting 155 total.
To become a more well-rounded player, Gage needs some work at the free throw line after making just 58 percent of his 81 attempts. Better results there will see an increase in his scoring and overall value.
Rhenden Wagaman Rhenden Wagaman 6'3" | SG Springville | 2022 State IA – Springville
One of the more prolific shooters in the conference, Springville’s Rhenden Wagaman Rhenden Wagaman 6'3" | SG Springville | 2022 State IA knocked down 56 three-pointers last year. He finished shooting 50 percent from the floor and almost 43 percent from deep.
