One team – Oregon Prospects Gold in 15U – went undefeated at 5-0 in the event. We got a chance to watch a couple of their games and after talking to coach Joe Jackson about the squad, here’s a look at their top performers:
Adrian Mosley Adrian Mosley 6'2" | SF West Linn | 2023 State #269 Nation OR (2023 Grant)
Mosley has long been one of the most unique players we have seen since last summer before his freshman season at Grant. The 6-foot-2 sophomore can simply be labeled a “player” as he can literally play every position on the court and that’s what he did in the event. Mosley was the team’s leading rebounder, scored a bunch of buckets near the hoop, and helped run the offense. He has a real knack for passing, knowing when his teammates are going to the hoop and hitting them with the right dime. As most of his points were around the hoop, whether off of drives or using his physical stature to back down guys down low, Mosley may be a reliable jump shot away from really being a matchup problem.
Sanborne Melson Sanborne Melson 5'10" | CG Jefferson | 2023 State OR (2023 Jefferson)
Melson is a defensive-minded guard who really showed a good motor in the games we watched. The 5-foot-11 guard has a strong build and used it to his advantage to strongarm his way into the lane and finish plays at the basket. Melson made some brief varsity appearances at Jefferson last season before getting injured but will play a much more significant role this year.
Amare Adams (2023 Jefferson)
Adams is a quick point guard who really impressed us in the action we saw. He has a quick first step and got to the hoop almost whenever he wanted, finished at the hoop with either hand or dished it off to a teammate for a score. The 5-foot-10 guard can shoot it with range and was active on the defensive end. Like Melson, he’ll have a much bigger role for Jefferson this upcoming season.
Gray Thompson Gray Thompson 6'6" | SF Central Catholic | 2023 State OR (2023 Central Catholic)
Thompson is definitely a name to know for the future. At about 6-foot-5, he’s got good size already for his age and he used that to his advantage inside – especially on the boards where he seemingly sucked up every defensive rebound at times. Offensively, he has the skill to face up and shoot a smooth-looking jumper out past the three-point line or take the ball off the bounce a bit.
Logan Law Logan Law 5'9" | PG Milwaukie | 2023 State OR (2023 Milwaukie)
The son of Milwaukie head coach Donny Law is a natural floor leader. While he didn’t hit from the outside in the games we saw, Jackson notes that Law was one of the top perimeter threats for the Prospects in the event. He lacks size right now at 5-foot-5 but is quick and like other smaller players, has learned how to finish around the hoop over bigger guys.
AJ Carter (2023 Tigard)
Carter came off of the bench in the games we watched and provided some tremendous energy and motor. The sophomore’s defense is ahead of his offense at this point but according to Jackson is coming into his own. He’s long and rangy and was able to really get into the grill of opponents both in the full court and half court presses.
Isaiah Jensen (2023 Churchill)
Known as “Bugsy”, Jensen is a baseball standout but a good all-around athlete who showed some good basketball skills at the event. Another guy who gave good energy on the court on both ends, there were times when he was flying all over the court. He showed a good touch from the perimeter and also was effective slashing to the basket.
