The 5 guys mentioned below caught my attention due to their distributing efforts, defensive awareness, and ability to play their role. Several of these guys could be sleepers in their respective cities once the season begins in November. Take a look below.
Isaiah Mastellar (2021) Anna 6’2- Nice two way player from Anna out of the SCAL. Gets his hands on the ball and disruptive as a perimeter defender. While he was not a high volume scorer, does his role of handling the ball and setting guys up. Goes to a crossover dribble to beat defenders on the perimeter and has a quick reflex to execute. Could be a sleeper come Winter with the talent lost out of Anna.
Dre’Sean Roberts (2023) Piqua 6’1- This was my first chance to see Roberts play and he was solid at the Expo. Unselfish and willing to make extra passes on the offensive end. Athletic and handles the ball well. A little raw still in terms of his scoring capabilities and specifically will need to work on his jump shot as he continues to grow. Solid role player on the perimeter.
Josiah Mobley Josiah Mobley 6'0" | PG Whitehall | 2021 OH (2021) Reynoldsburg 6’1- Mobley was automatic on the offensive end Saturday, putting his shooting capabilities on full display. Caught fire in the midrange and knocked down some big shots from beyond the arc as well. Has an automatic shot and release. Defensively played well reading passing lanes and defending the perimeter. Definitely raised his stock as a result of the event.
William Miller William Miller 6'2" | PG Ottoville | 2022 State OH (2022) Ottoville 5’11- Miller could arguably be listed a a PG the way he played on Saturday, but we will list him as CG in this piece. Distributor and sets his guys up on the offensive end. Keeps his dribble alive and does a solid job of using the reverse dribble to avoid defensive pressure. Will be an intriguing prospect as he gains some height.
Chapman Faulkner (2021) East Dayton Christian 6’1- Faulkner was an unknown name to me leading up to the event, but he played hard and that is what impressed me most. Constantly moves on the offensive end looking to space and balance the floor. Hustles after 50/50 balls and willing to make an extra pass to setup a teammate for a better scoring opportunity. Good handle of the ball and could be a sleeper in Dayton if he can consistently hit midrange shots.
