Jasper Hedin Jasper Hedin 6'5" | SF Winona | 2022 State MN (6’5 2022 SG, Winona)- This was my first chance getting to see Jasper play in person, and came away impressed with his size, athleticism, and versatile skills on the wing. He was a major presence on the defensive end, and had some impressive plays using his length and quick reaction time to to block a pair of jump shots, and then turning instantly and pushing the break. At 6’5 he was more than comfortable handling the ball in the open floor, and was able to get in the paint to finish or distribute to the open man after drawing a help defender. Scholarship level talent that can do a bit of everything on the floor.
Demarion Watson Demarion Watson 6'8" | SF Totino-Grace | 2022 State #150 Nation MN (6’7 2022 SF, Totino-Grace)- We’ve been talking a lot about Demarion lately, so I’ll keep this one short. Demarion has continued to look like a nationally ranked talent, with impressive physical traits of length and explosiveness, while showing off a smooth pull-up jumper that he can create with ease. It’s no wonder he’s pulled in a number of offers in the past two days.
Blake Rohrer Blake Rohrer 6'2" | SG Woodbury | 2022 State MN (6’3 2022 CG, Woodbury)- Blake’s a guy who can play the 1 or the 2, but due to his size I have him in with the wings for this list. He has a strong frame that allowed him to get inside the paint and shield off defenders to finish, but also has some wiggle with the ball in his hands, able to create some space off the dribble to get off a shot. I liked his unselfishness with the ball, and vision to find cutting teammates going to the basket. With his size, skillset, and basketball IQ, he’s a player who can really stuff the stat sheet.
Camden Holter Camden Holter 6'3" | SG Minneapolis Southwest | 2022 State MN (6’3 2022 SG, Holy Angels)- One of the most versatile players at the event and a guy I’m excited to watch as a junior, Camden had a solid showing in a game that featured multiple Division One offered players. He’s a smooth athlete with a solid handle, able to turn the corner on his man and glide to the hoop to finish. Camden did a good job at grabbing rebounds or receiving outlet passes, and then picking his head up to either push the ball forward with the dribble or throw it ahead to an open teammate for transition buckets. His willingness to take on whatever role is needed from him is something that college coaches will be drawn to.
Tommy Humphries Tommy Humphries 6'5" | SF Totino-Grace | 2023 State #283 Nation MN (6’4 2023 W, Totino-Grace)- Speaking of versatile players, Tommy Humphries Tommy Humphries 6'5" | SF Totino-Grace | 2023 State #283 Nation MN may just be the most versatile in the 2023 class. At around 6’4/6’5 with an extremely long frame, Tommy excels on the wing but can also handle the ball and run an offense at times. He did a good job of getting his defender on his hip to shield him off for finishes at the rim, showed that he can knock down the outside shot if given too much space, and dished out some assists off of penetration in the lane. In the second half of his game that I saw, Tommy took over and scored four baskets in a row for his team.
Muja Burton Muja Burton 6'4" | SF Columbia Heights | 2022 State MN (6’3 2022 W, Columbia Heights)- A guy who simply knows how to put the ball in the hoop, Muja Burton Muja Burton 6'4" | SF Columbia Heights | 2022 State MN is instant offense for whatever team he’s playing on. At the Top 250 Expo he showed off his outside shot that he knocks down consistently, but was also able to glide to the rim for some smooth finishes. Muja is the type of player who won’t wow you with explosive athleticism, but is able to read the defense and exploit gaps while never looking rushed under pressure.
Mario Adams (6’4 2023 F, Eastview)- A player that I’ve really grown to like over the past three months, Mario once again impressed me over the weekend at Hopkins. Despite being wiry thin he plays even bigger than his height suggests, using his length to contest shots around the rim and fight for rebounds. Offensively he’s grown in his ability to shake defenders off the dribble and work his way to the rim, where he has some explosive ability off of two feet. What impressed me the most was his second half takeover, where he knocked down a handful of threes in just a few minutes, further showcasing his ability to score the ball in multiple ways.
