Ben Oosterbaan Breaks Out
Best prospect on the floor I saw on this night was Hinsdale Central face up four man Ben Oosterbaan. He also took home MVP honors for his performance. Very skilled 6’4” player that can handle it with ease in space. Took his man off the bounce several times. Capable three point shooter with a nice looking stroke. Crashed the boards on both ends including defensively where he was able to take it off the glass and go the other way. One to watch!
Collin Wainscott Continues to Emerge
After a strong showing this summer on the Prep Hoops Circuit with Chicago Lockdown Marmion Academy 2023 combo guard Collin Wainscott put his name on our radar. He continued that progression on Wednesday night. High level sniper on the perimeter with his shooting. Crisp passer in ball screens. Has some toughness off the bounce as well.
2023 Point Guards to Monitor
A few new names popped up on our radar at the point guard position. Westinghouse point guard Isaiah Giles is a compact guard with a stocky build who hit a few threes and was strong taking it to the cup through contact. Metea Valley’s Tyler Royal is a lead guard that scored in the paint with his slick handles. Got a lot of junk points by being in the right spot at the right time. Chase Dockery is a scrappy guard that can knock down a three and was active defensively. Can’t forget one of our favorite little guards in Plainfield Central’s Bryce Shoto who brings creativity off the dribble, can pass with flair, and hit an occasional three.
Projectable Guards/Wings Put Name on Map
Three guards with projectability flashed some intriguing tools on Wednesday night. Riverside Brookfield’s Will Gonzalez is a long and lanky two guard that got loose in transition and drilled a three. DePaul Prep’s Toussaint Gilbert was a slick handling combo guard that got in the lane with ease off the bounce and had a feathery mid-range game. Jelani McGregor of Lake Forest Academy looked really smooth with the rock in his hands slithering through defenders and has some passing feel.
More Guards to Track
Oswego East power wing Jeremiah Akin is a strong bodied guard that can slash using his strength at the cup. Crashed the glass for put backs, got junk points, had a spinning layup, and even knocked in a pull up jumper. Also want to make mention of Providence Catholic’s Noah Billows. Strong wing with decent size drilled several threes and was active on the glass.
