This particular camp was comprised of some young players looking to make a name for themselves along with some older players that, for whatever reason, need more exposure. It was good to see all of the talented players take to the good coaching from the great coaches that participated. The result of this created an extremely competitive atmosphere. Players had a great opportunity to be seen, evaluated and to play on the platform that RCS Sports and Nelson Brand provides. Let’s shine a spotlight on a few of the players.
Jaland Lowe Jaland Lowe 6'2" | PG Fort Bend Marshall | 2023 State #124 Nation TX
6’3 PG | Kinkaid HS | 2023
Jaland played extremely well, particularly offensively. He moved well and got where ever he wanted to on the floor. It appeared that he was focusing on playing inside-out, by starting games super aggressive. He got into the lane, finished in traffic and drew a lot of fouls. Once he was established as a threat to attack, it opened up perimeter shots for him to take and he was efficient from deep.
Jaylon Jackson
6’8 F/G | Dobie HS | 2021
Hands down the most exciting player to watch over the course of the weekend. Extremely long, which tends to lead to deflections and blocks on the defensive end. Offensively, he ran the floor extremely well and shot the ball well from the perimeter. He displayed his athleticism on a number of plays by making numerous highlight dunks. Absolutely love this young man’s size and potential.
Treshon Clay
5’11 PG | Westbury HS | 2021
One half of the “Twins,” Treshon was a force all weekend. He proved to be the fastest player on the floor game in and game out, which was advantageous for not only himself but also for his teammates. He got passed defenders, got paint touches and then either finished in traffic or passed the ball out for open shots for his teammates. Defensively, he was a pest as usual.
Trevon Clay
5’11 PG | Westbury HS | 2021
The other half of the “Twins” played as well as his brother. Their games are similar, however, Trevon looks to hurt opposing teams by knocking down perimeter shots a bit more. Still, he was able to get into the paint as well. He was relentless on the defensive end and he displayed tremendous passing ability throughout the event. He dictated pace and turned defense into offense all weekend.
Justin Scott
6’5 F/G | Home School | 2023
Justin has great size for his age and knows how to use it. He was effective rebounding the ball and filling the lanes in transition. This allowed him to create easy buckets for himself by either getting put backs or transition lay ups. Justin also displayed tremendous touch, not only on the perimeter but also in the trenches. He hit shots from the perimeter and scored with his back to the basket on the block.
LaTavien Denson
5’8 PG | Fort Bend Marshall HS | 2022
“Tay” was effective all weekend long. He played with energy and at times took opposing teams by surprise. When he drove into the lane he was able to bounce off of contact, manipulate his body and find an angle to get a shot up and score. He also proved to be a reliable source of offense from the three point line. His active hands and lateral movement on defense created turnovers as well.
Wesley Yates Wesley Yates 6'4" | SG Beaumont United | 2023 State #36 Nation TX
6’3 Combo | Beaumont United HS | 2023
No disrespect to his father, but from now on this young man should simply go by Mr. Yates. He has played well all summer and this weekend was no different. He made extremely difficult shots with consistency, played with poise and played both sides of the ball well. There is nothing on the floor that he cannot do, but this weekend he made things easier by running the floor well and letting his athleticism take care of the rest.
Anthony Pelzer
6’3 F/G | Katy Taylor HS | 2021
Unsung but NOT unnoticed. Anthony’s energy on the defensive end was contagious. He did all of the little things that helps a team win whether they show up on the stat sheet or not. He was a leader on his team both vocally and by his effort. He was tenacious on the boards, hand delivering multiple possessions for his team on numerous occasions. He knocked down the three and got to the ft line a ton! That’s what energy and effort will usually get you.
