With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top forwards from small schools in Section 2
Andrew Morgan Andrew Morgan 6'9" | C Waseca | 2021 State #178 Nation MN , Waseca
Morgan is one of the best players in the state and a dominant interior presence that few other Class AA teams can handle inside. He’s developed his perimeter game to the point that he’s a solid spot-up shooter but his impact offensively comes from his combination of mobility and activity. He’s a beast on the offensive glass. He finishes everything around the rim and his ability to create his own shot in the post is excellent. And he’s a monster defensive presence.
Teigan Martin Teigan Martin 6'7" | PF Mayer Lutheran | 2022 MN , Mayer Lutheran
Martin is one of the top prospects in Minnesota’s 2022 class and at 6-foot-7, he’s an intriguing player because of his blend of size, athleticism and skill. He’s a matchup problem for a lot of teams because at his size, he’s mobile and active enough to abuse bigger guys, but he’s also got the skill to take people on the perimeter. He averaged nearly 20 points per game as a sophomore as the leader of an inexperienced Crusaders team. Mayer Lutheran should be better this winter – and Martin should be at the forefront of that.
Shane Stevenson Shane Stevenson 6'6" | PF Nicollet | 2021 State MN , Nicollet
Stevenson was a breakout guy last year for the Knights, averaging 19 points and nearly eight rebounds per game while shooting 35 percent from the 3-point line (54 percent overall). He backed that up with an awesome summer playing with MN Rise and looks like one of the elite level players in Section 1A this winter. He’s good on both ends of the floor and can do a lot of damage offensively inside and out. Don’t be surprised if he’s a 25-10 type guy this year.
Ky Harrison, Minnesota Valley Lutheran
Harrison was a solid fourth option for MVL last year and is a jack-of-all-trades type guy who averaged 10 points, six rebounds and four assists while shooting better than 50 percent from the field. He’s rock-solid in a lot of areas and with the Chargers losing its top three scorers, he’ll have a lot more on his plate as a senior.
Mitchel Jaskowiak Mitchel Jaskowiak 6'4" | PF Glencoe-Silver Lake | 2022 State MN , Glencoe-Silver Lake
Jaskowiak is a multidimensional guy who excels in a lot of areas. He’s probably best suited to play facing up or on the wing but he’s more than capable of playing in the paint on both ends of the floor. He’s a knockdown catch-and-shoot guy who has some off-the-dribble juice and the ability to finish at the rim. And he’s solid on the defensive end of the floor and capable of guarding three positions effectively. He averaged 19 points per game last year – don’t be surprised if that number goes up big this year.
Carson Domeier, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s
Domeier busted out in his sophomore year, averaging 19 points, six rebounds, better than three assists while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field. He’s a good 3-point shooter on decent volume. He’s an effective slasher who can play through contact and he’s excellent and he’s a strong mid-range guy. As he continues to get bigger and stronger, he’s going to get better and better.
Sam Knowles Sam Knowles 6'6" | PF New Ulm Cathedral | 2022 State MN , New Ulm Cathedral
Knowles was the fourth option for a terrific NUC club last year and despite lacking great height, averaged a double-double. He’s efficient and does a great job getting to the free throw line. He averaged four offensive rebounds per game (10.9 altogether). Life might be a little more difficult this upcoming season as the Greyhounds lost its three top scorers, but Knowles will be much more heavily featured this winter.
Ben Holden Ben Holden 6'6" | PF Cleveland | 2021 State MN , Cleveland
Holden is one of the best true centers in the area and a potential double-double guy every night out. He doesn’t try to do too much and you know what you are getting from him – he’s going to be around the rim or in the post, and he’s got good footwork and a soft touch.
