This was a massive event and tons of seniors from 6 different states were able to showoff their talent and skills to over 120 college coaches that watched both in-person and virtually. Over the next few weeks, we are going to breakdown each team and evaluate each player from that team. Today, we look at Team 3.
Team 3:
Reggie Abrams – 5’10″ PG 2021 – Hammond IN:
Abrams is a smaller lead guard who is pretty smart with his play making. Hardly any doubt that he would play anything other than the point at the next level but he has some scoring ability to complement his ability to set up his teammates. Pretty good rebounder and boxes out well. Just a player with high IQ and knows his role on a team. Solid showing from Abrams.
Lucas Shock Lucas Shock 6'1" | CG St. Clair Shores Lakeview | 2021 State MI – 6’1″ SG – Lakeview MI:
Shock is a shorter combo guard with a strong body frame. High vertical and gets to the basket well and finishes strong. Did not see a ton of outside shooting from him as he looked to make more plays getting to and around the rim. However, with him playing more around the rim he was able to get a ton of boards. Overall, he is player with solid court vision and can make tough plays to benefit his team.
Evan Justice – 6’2″ SG – Circleville OH:
Justice is a taller shooting guard with a wide frame. Smooth playing style and shoots the ball well from the outside and 15ft area. Showed that by a few 3s off the catch and nice step-back shot near the elbow. Has the size and athleticism that you can further mold at the next level. There is some potential in Justice.
Clayton Roberts III Clayton Roberts III 6'4" | SG Grand Rapids Angels | 2021 State MI – 6’4″ SF – Great Lakes Learning Academy MI:
Roberts is a tall wing with some nice athleticism. Excellent rebounder and likes to bang down low. Does a solid job with driving from the wing but needs to work on finishing at a consistent rate. Not a ton of outside shooting in the game I watched live. Needs to make a few tweaks in his offense but is a player that has the size and skill to already be a good defender.
Julian Campbell Julian Campbell 6'6" | C Palatine | 2021 State IL – 6’8″ C – Palatine IL:
Campbell is a big post player with legit size. Surprisingly, he can stretch the floor quiet bit as he had a 3 off the catch. However, he seemed to rely on outside shooting a little too much and was not utilizing his size to bang down low against someone who matched up well with him. Other than that, he looked to be a solid rebounder as well. Would have liked to see some more of a post game on offense but their looks to be something in Campbell’s game that can be used at the next level.
Branden Thomas Branden Thomas 6'2" | SG Henry Ford II | 2021 State MI – 6’2″ SG – Henry Ford MI:
Thomas is a big, athletic shooting guard. Solid handles and sees the floor well. Solid on defense but needed to see him be a little more aggressive on the offense. Has the size to play the 2 guard at the next level. Interesting player to watch for in his senior season.
Jakada Stone Jakada Stone 6'0" | PG Cincinnati Aiken | 2021 State OH – 6’0″ PG – Aiken OH:
Stone is a quick guard that has the skill and talent to play. Combo guard that can score and pass at a high level. Had a nice pull-up 3 and was strong on his drives. Quick enough to guard a few different spots. Like his style of play and ability to really open up an offense.
Lane Sparks Lane Sparks 6'2" | PG Greensburg | 2021 State IN – 6’3″ SG – Greensburg IN:
Sparks is a shooting guard with a ton of talent. Kind of a “do it all” player on the offense. Real good on the drive and is very smooth around the rim. Great shooter and has an excellent release on his shot. His long body helps him a ton on the defensive end. Sparks is an underrated player that is in for a breakout year coming up.
Wleing Maywal – 6’5″ SF – East Kentwood MI:
Maywal is a wing that plays fast. Long body and defends very well. Was not a ton of offense from him here but did notice he has a high arching shot. Right now, he defends at a high enough level that he could transition that to the collegiate level and even improve more on. Cannot really say what his offense is like at this moment but he has got the potential.
Chris McQueen Chris McQueen 6'6" | PF Lane Tech | 2021 State IL – 6’6″ PF – Lane Tech IL:
McQueen is a big player who is a true stretch 4. Not the type of player that forces anything but steps up when he needs to. Solid rebounder and crashes the boards well on both ends. There is for sure some untapped potential in there. With the right opportunity, McQueen could really breakout at the next level.
