This was a massive event and tons of seniors from 6 different states were able to showoff their talent and skills to over 120 college coaches that watched both in-person and virtually. Over the next few weeks, we are going to breakdown each team and evaluate each player from that team. Today, we look at Team 2.
Team 2:
George Hatchett George Hatchett 5'10" | CG Forest Hills Central | 2021 State MI – 5’10″ PG 2021 – Forest Hills Central MI:
Hatchett is a quick but small guard. Great slashing ability and has the ball handles to go with it. Real aggressive on the defensive end and had a few steals on the day. Gets the rim real well with one time resulting in an “and 1.” His size does not look like it effects or limits him from making plays. Would have liked to have seen his jumper a bit more but overall he played pretty well.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | PG L'anse Creuse North | 2021 State MI – 6’1″ PG – L’Anse Creuse North MI:
Johnson is a bigger lead guard that can play on and off the ball. Solid court vision and is real good on the drive and kick. Has a great motor that pairs well with his shiftiness with the ball. Can really utilize that shiftiness to get to the rim often. Johnson has a ton of upside and can give an offense at the next level a ton of options on the offense.
Cole Pardon Cole Pardon 6'5" | SF Brandon | 2021 State MI – 6’5″ SF – Brandon MI:
Pardon is a tall wing with a long body frame. Great defender with a high level of athleticism. He is shooter and his long arms give him the advantage on his high release that also has a smooth follow through. Solid rebounder as well. Needs to add some more size but overall he had a solid performance on the day.
Darrell Reed Darrell Reed 6'8" | PF Hammond | 2021 State IN – 6’7″ PF – Hammond IN:
Reed is a tall post player with legit size and a good amount of strength. Was solid off the pick-and-roll and showed off a soft touch around the rim. Still has some raw talent and tried a little too much to shoot it from the outside, which is not really his game at the moment. Like how active he is on the defensive end, especially around the post area. Has a few offers already and would not be surprised if this event helped him snag a few more. Solid showing from Reed.
Jordan Strohl – 5’9″ PG – Kaukauna WI:
Strohl is a very short lead guard but has a wide frame to him. Has some scrappiness to his playing style and is not afraid to get in there on the defensive end. On the offensive side, he plays like a true point guard by not forcing anything crazy and tries to set his teammates up as much as possible. Might of had one of the best pump fakes I saw on the day as well. Time will tell if his size will limit him any but if he can keep his aggressiveness up, the right school could take a chance on him.
Drake Moore – 6’2″ SG – Morristown IN:
Moore is a tall guard with some handles and creativity to his game. Gets to the basket extremely well but needs to work on finishing at a more consistent rate. Showed that he can get to the basket with a real nice spin move to the rim that had the defender off balance. Showed that he could shoot the ball too with a few 3s off the catch. Defensive wise he is solid and could give a school at the next level some versatility along with some scoring at the guard spot.
Jesse Lawson, Jr Jesse Lawson, Jr 6'4" | CG Walled Lake Northern | 2021 State MI – 6’4″ SF – Walled Lake Northern MI:
Lawson is a tall and athletic wing that can do a bunch on both ends. Wide frame and that really helps him on the defensive end. Had a nice steal that led to him scoring on the fastbreak. Showed that he is a good perimeter shooter with a few pull-up 3s. There looks to be a ton of upside in Lawson, especially as a scorer. Programs that are looking for scoring should take a look at this prospect.
Michael Rheintgen – 6’6″ PF – Downers Grove South IL:
Rheintgen is a tall and lanky forward that plays the post very well. Excellent rebounder and is very active on the boards on both ends. Also was really impressed how well his ball handles are for his size. Shot it from 15ft and beyond a few times but was not really connecting form there but with a few tweaks he does look to have some stretch ability. Interesting prospect that has the potential to to be a solid 4 at the next level, especially if he can give an offense the opportunity to space the floor out.
