Lets take a look at some of players from the Wing positions that you should be keeping an eye out for this fall.
Blake Danitschek Blake Danitschek 6'6" | SG Kapaun | 2021 State KS , 6’6 Wing, Kapaun Mt. Carroll
A long versatile player, Danitschek is a player that can fill a bunch of different roles and positions on the court. He is a knock down 3 point shooter and his range extends well beyond the high school 3 point line. He has the ability to shoot off of the dribble, off of kick outs, and popping off of ball screens. His ability to handle the ball also allows him to be a threat as the primary ball handler in pick and roll as well, getting to his spots to hit pull up jumpers or using his length to pass over and around defenses to his teammates on cuts or other actions. On defense, Danitschek can get up to the glass to protect the rim, and is athletics enough to sit and stay in front of wing players.
Tanner Hecht Tanner Hecht 6'5" | CG Wamego | 2021 State KS , 6’5 Wing, Wamego High School
Hecht is an offensively savvy player that is versatile enough to play the 2 through 4 spots. He is really good at finding cutters in the half court and setting up teammates in comfortable positions to score. His ability to knock down the 3 point shot, especially from the corners at his size and length makes him a tough person to guard on the perimeter. During the tail end of the summer he showed an increased ability to finish around the rim through length and size. He is someone who spends a lot of time in the gym working on his game so expect his play to continue to progress throughout his final year at the high school level.
Isaac Patterson Isaac Patterson 6'6" | PF Overland Park | 2021 State KS , 6’6 Wing, Blue Valley North
This summer Patterson’s game blossomed and grew at a high rate. He was a stat sheet filler for his MoKan squad and was a center piece for their success. In transition, Isaac can get out ahead and finish hard through contact or off quick jumps towards the glass as well as make the proper reads on 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 breaks. He is great at reading defenses while coming off of multiple types of screens and is versatile enough to make defenses pay for however he is being guarding coming off of them. Patterson is a solid 3 point shooter slasher and play maker who’s interest from college programs has been growing in the recent months.
Tyrese Cannon Tyrese Cannon 6'3" | SF Leavenworth | 2022 KS , 6’4 Wing, Leavenworth High School
A long, athletic wing who brings a lot of energy to the court. Any time Cannon is on the floor expect highlight finishes around the rim, high energy plays, and a tenacity that gets the gym rolling. On the defensive end of the floor, he is active and very instinctual , leading to a lot of steals that get him out into transition where he plays above the rim. In the offensive half court, he does a great job of getting paint touches off the dribble and has a wide variety of finishes from scoop layups, front of the rim floaters, and extended layups off the glass. His ability to get to the rim is also complimented by his ability to knock down jumpers. Pulling up off of the bounce at his size is a great weapon of his and has a quick release off of catch and shoot opportunities.
CJ Powell, 6’6 Wing, Highland Park
Powell has continued to get adapted to playing on the perimeter as a wing. He has a nice jump shot stroke especially in the mid range area and is tough to block with his size and length. He can be a zone buster playing in the mid post to mid baseline areas. Playing from around the 15 ft area is where he thrives, and is tough when rip driving defenders into the teeth of defenses and finishing at the rim. As he continues to expand his range and his game along the perimeter, Powell is a player who is going to take a massive leap this fall and into his senior season.
