There was a ton of competition and hard play. Kids were playing together and really listening to our coaches and making sure they made plays in front of the many media members in the gym.
Here is a look at Part 2 of the stock risers from 2023 and 2024.
Asa Newell Asa Newell 6'8" | PF Montverde Academy | 2024 State #29 Nation FL | 6-6 | Choctaw
One of my favorite 2024 players in the gym was Newell. He quietly got it done. The Choctaw forward has smooth feet, a nice array of inside finishes and a knack of finding the good areas on the floor. Obviously, he is still young and has to add muscle and vocalness to his game, but he is off to a good start. A freshman from the panhandle, he’s up next at a school that continues to have steady success. Newell is someone to keep a close eye on.
Isaiah Sutherland | 6-4 | Orlando Christian Prep
This was my first time seeing Sutherland and I think he is going to be a special talent. Right away, I noticed how impactful he is on both ends of the floor. Full of energy and length, Sutherland can flat out shoot it, pushes the cause in transition and knows how to use his long frame to defend just about anyone. The 2023 forward will continue to grow and fill out. At Orlando Christian Prep, he projects as a major piece off the bench this season.
Jaylyn Kennedy Jaylyn Kennedy 6'2" | PG Rosedale Christian Academy | 2024 FL | 6-0 | Admiral Farragut
One of the steadiest point guards in the event, Kennedy didn’t care who you were on the other end, he was going to fight for his. He is bigger than he looks and with strong finishes and a mix of speed to work with, he is certainly dynamic. Time and time again, the 2024 Admiral Farragut showcased his offensive ability. He has a knack for steals on the defensive end as well. Kennedy plays a mature game.
Brennen Sands | 5-9 | Miramar
Undersized but tough as nails, Sands made his presence known early and often when I saw him play. The 2023 point guard has serious wheels, fancy handles and a reliable jumper. If Sands can tack on more strength, he will continue to further his game and be able to handle matchups on both ends of the floor. He proved that he is going to be a true threat for defending state champion Miramar this season as a sophomore.
Joey Winter Joey Winter 6'1" | SG Booker | 2023 FL | 6-0 | Booker
Winter walked into the gym and clearly has been hitting the weights. Last year, he was a 3-point shooter and role player at Booker. On Saturday, The 2023 guard flashed his strong upper body, added inside attacks and of course, his reliable 3-point shot. He hangs defensively with his good footwork and strong frame. He is going to have a nice sophomore campaign.
