Some of the top players that will become household names in the next couple of years in Illinois. Here are the players who stood out the most! We will have more on this event throughout the week.
Khalil Ross Khalil Ross 6'6" | SF Brother Rice | 2023 State IL 6’5 Lincoln Way East
Long and agile Ross was making things happen on both sides of the ball. Offensively he has a good handles that will get better with time. He will be used more as a slasher who can catch tough passes in traffic and finish around the rim. Khalil has a unique ability to make himself longer when he gets around the bucket, a good trait to have especially on defense. He blocked and changed several shots in the game I watched him. It will be nice to chart his growth over the next 3 years.
Yarell Greer 5’9 Bogan
Well a small tough guard from Bogan. It seems like they keep a ton of these types of guards around. Greer fits right in with the style of play. He guards 94 feet forcing ball handlers to think while on the move. On offense he was great in the half court slick handles with some tough finishes at the rim. He also knocked two threes in the game I saw.
Matas Buzelis Matas Buzelis 6'9" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2023 #2 Nation NLG 6’8 Hinsdale Central
Matas looked amazing in this format taking it to opposing bigs. He made shots from all areas behind the three point line. Then once he was crowded he made some nice drives to the rim. The best thing about Buzelis is his ability to move at his size for his age. He made a couple euro steps that froze the defenders. Matas has a high ceiling of potential. He was awarded Co–MVP.
Darrin Ames Darrin Ames 6'1" | PG Kenwood | 2023 State #99 Nation IL 6’1 Bloom
Ames toyed with defenders all day. He broke guys down continuously in the half court against man to man defense and coming off ball screens. His IQ has gotten better over the summer. Darrin caught the gyms attention when he basically went on a shooting spree. Knocking down shot after shot in the games. I’ll say out of 20 three point attempts he maybe only missed 3. He basically had his own shooting clinic at the Premiere Prospect camp. Ames team went undefeated in game play and he was also Awarded Co- MVP
