With growth spurts, physical development and improved skills, a player can go from unknown to on the map in a heartbeat. In this article PH takes a look at some c/o 2022 prospects with the potential to hit their ceiling this year.
Shane Thomas Shane Thomas 6'3" | SG Durango | 2022 State NV 6’3 SG Durango (#6) – Currently: Low Major Ceiling: Mid – High Major
Has the physical tools, the athleticism and skill to be an impact guy at the next level. He has a good frame, which allows him to both take and dish out contact on drives. His athleticism allows him to stand out in a crowd, and his spot up shooting is lethal. When you throw in the fact that he is a long armed versatile defender, that hasn’t played competitively in over a year, you start to see what he has a chance to become. He currently holds a LM offer, however I expect him to pick up more as soon as he’s back to playing.
Aaron Price Aaron Price 6'7" | PF Liberty | 2022 State NV 6’7 PF Liberty (#8) – Currently: D2 Ceiling: Low – Mid Major
With or without basketball Price will probably dominate life. He has a good chance to do that on the basketball court as well. High IQ defender that is good both on ball and in a help defense role. Price is currently transitioning his game to the 3 which should only raise his value. He also is a 4.0 student opening him up to additional opportunities.
Dontrell Johnson Dontrell Johnson 6'5" | SF Trinity | 2022 State NV 6’5 PF Bonanza (#13) – Currently: Juco Ceiling: D2
Johnson is one of my favorite players in the state. It’s difficult not to like him simply for the fact that he plays so hard. He has athleticism along with dribble drive ability. Part of the reason he makes this list is because of his one glaring weakness. Once his position changes from PF to SF, his stock will rise.
Brandon Enriquez Brandon Enriquez 6'6" | C Shadow Ridge | 2022 State NV 6’7 C Shadow Ridge (#27) – Currently: Juco Ceiling: D2
Enriquez is an intriguing prospect currently in the stages of downsizing positions. He’s already an effective shot blocker and rebounder from the 5 spot. If he can show that he can stretch the floor, and or put the ball on the ground, he has a great chance to hit his ceiling.
Phoenix Wortham Phoenix Wortham 6'1" | SG Green Valley | 2022 State NV 6’1 SG Green Valley (#60) – Currently: Post Grad Ceiling: NAIA/D2
Age plays a big part of a players ceiling. Wortham is a “young” junior. His shooting is legit, and he plays with a confidence that belies his age. If he grows into his frame and develops upper body strength, I expect by the end of his senior year for someone to take a long look at this sniper.
