Last season at Madison, he helped lead the team and was one of the best shooters on a very solid roster. In the 2020-21 season, King will look to help lead the Bobcats to a state appearance after working through the district tournament. Continue reading for a breakdown of Taden’s skills and abilities on both ends of the floor.
Defense: King has great size for his position and matches up well with all types of players. Against guards, Taden is quick and athletic enough to keep them in front while still keeping a hand to contest jump shots. He is also very good with his hands and constantly deflects the ball or creates opportunities for steals while he is in help side. Against bigs, King is big enough to guard them in a way that they cannot simply shoot over the top of him. He battles in the post and deters bigs from taking easy, comfortable shots. He is great at guarding on the perimeter and in the post, making him a versatile player that can guard nearly anyone on a roster. Taden rebounds very well and is constantly in the paint looking for rebounds that he can grab.
Offense: Taden is a rare offensive talent. He likes to score at all three levels and does so evenly. He is a very solid outside shooter that can shoot in a variety of ways and from anywhere beyond the arch. He has a smooth left-handed stroke that is efficient and quick. If he doesn’t take the outside shot, Taden is a master of the mid-range pull-up and uses it all the time after getting defenders off their feet with a shot fake. If neither are open, King will drive to the basket where he can finish over the top of smaller defenders and can use his body to create space against bigs. One of Taden’s best offensive skills is his post game. He likes to post against smaller guards before using a turnaround or fadeaway to score easily. Taden does not usually bring the ball up the court, but he is capable and has solid vision when he wants to pass. However, his first offensive instinct is always to score.
Overall: King is a great guard for the Madison Bobcats and his skills will be on full display this season. He can guard any player on the floor and has proven his ability to keep anyone in front. On offense, King is skilled at scoring in any fashion and can also pass to teammates well. I would expect his leadership and scoring opportunities to increase this season. King would make an excellent 2 or 3-guard at the next level.
