Defense: Layton has a solid frame that he uses to impose his will against opposing teams. He can guard both guards and bigs and can easily defend anyone on an opposing roster. At 6’2″, he has great size for guarding 1’s and 2’s when he can get a hand up to contest jump shots. He can also guard against the post, using his long arms to force bigs into tough shots that they normally would not want to shoot against a taller player. Layton plays hard on every possession and rarely needs a substitute due to fatigue. One of his greatest strengths on defense is his ability to rebound the basketball. Carter chases every shot that comes off of the iron and always seems to find gaps where the ball bounces to for an easy bucket. He has a great sense of how and when to crash the boards which he uses to boost his rebounding numbers.
Offense: Carter is a solid offensive player with a lot of versatility built into his game. Though not his greatest strength, Carter is comfortable with stepping out to the perimeter and knocking down a jumper from deep. He only shoots when left wide open and has found consistency in taking this shot. Inside, he has a great mid-range jumper that he likes to use when working out of the post or attempting to work in the middle of the paint. He has a great sense of spacial awareness on the court and is excellent at finding gaps within the defense. Carter also finishes really well at the rim and uses his strength and power to move through defenders on his way to the bucket.
Overall: Carter is a great player for Blackfoot and will look to lead them in the upcoming season. He is a solid defender that can guard anyone on the floor and works tirelessly. On offense, he can make a shot from anywhere on the floor and has an overall great feeling for the game and is always comfortable and confident on the floor.
