Last season, Seay helped lead the Lakeland Hawks while on his way to a 1st team all-league honor. In the 2020-21 season, Carson will look to build on his past accomplishments as he leads the Hawks into a tough conference schedule and the hopes of advancing to a state tournament appearance. Continue reading for a breakdown of Carson’s skills and abilities on both ends of the floor.
Defense: Carson is a good defender for the Hawks and will continue to improve his skills in the upcoming season. He has great hands that he uses to reach in and poke the ball away from opposing guards when he is in help side. On the ball, he plays with his feet and rarely fouls while keeping his man in front. Against the post, Carson uses his strength to push post players away from the block or working to front them to prevent easy baskets. One of the most exciting parts of Seay’s defensive game is his willingness to play great help side defense and take charges. He took a lot during last season and is not afraid to sacrifice his body for his team. Carson rebounds consistently and likes to stick his nose in the paint to secure boards.
Offense: Seay is a great offensive threat for Lakeland. His game stems from his ability to knock down three-pointers consistently and efficiently. He likes to catch and shoot just as much as he likes to shoot off the dribble and he is versatile in his ability to shoot from well beyond the arc. If he does not shoot the three, Carson has a great mid-range pull-up jumper that he likes to use once he feels a defender’s momentum shift. Carson also has the skill to finish around the rim with either hand and is not afraid to attack the rim in traffic. As a point guard, Seay is a good passer with excellent vision and his greatest strength is running the fast break and setting his teammates up for easy scoring opportunities.
Overall: Altogether, Seay is a solid option for Lakeland as a guard. He is a great defender that is coachable and willing to guard any player on the floor. He has a great jump shot that he likes to use to put his team ahead and to close out tight games. I would expect his leadership role and scoring responsibilities to expand in the upcoming season. Seay would make a great 1 or 2 guard at the next level.
