Continue ReadingCarson Johnson is a point guard/shooting guard from the class of 2021. One of the best scorers in the state, Johnson will look to lead the Bonneville Bees to a solid run in conference and a potential appearance at the state tournament. Last season, Carson contributed lots of points and big minutes and will transition into a leadership role this season as a senior. Continue reading for a breakdown of Carson’s skills and abilities on both sides of the floor.
Defense: Johnson is a solid defender for the Bees and will continue to improve his skills in the upcoming season. Johnson is slowly beginning to fill out and grow into his body, and the added size will allow him to be a strong defender in the post and against bigger guards. Carson has quick hands and has a great first step which he uses to react to offensive players who try to drive by him. Against post players, Johnson is physical and does his best to push them off of the block or force them into tough shots. He does not back down from any players and is willing to take a charge to help his team to victory. Johnson is an okay defender and usually only goes after rebounds he knows that he will get.
Offense: Carson is an offensive threat. He heats up quickly and is known to score in bunches. He can knock down a shot from deep with ease and loves to shoot both off the dribble and in rhythm for a catch and shoot opportunity. He has a smooth mid-range jumper that allows him to use a shot fake to get by the first line of defense for an easy score. One of his favorite moves is finishing through contact or drawing a foul at the rim which allows him to get to the free throw line where he rarely misses. One of the most exciting parts of Carson’s game is his ability to close. He is a tremendous scorer in the fourth quarter and loves the pressure. He always steps up in the clutch for the Bees no matter the circumstance.
Overall: Altogether, Carson Johnson is a great player and has a lot of upside. Defensively, he will continue to get better as his size increases along with his athletic ability. On the offensive end, Carson is always ready to heat up and can score at will once he is able to get his shot going. I would expect him to take more shots in the upcoming season while leading the Bonneville Bees. Johnson would make an excellent 2-guard at the next level.
