Continue ReadingBrandon Bethel is a guard from the class of 2022. Bethel plays for his father at Mountain Home and is one of the leaders for the Tigers. Mountain Home’s roster fluctuates with talent from year to year based on the nature of the school being located at an Air Force base with families only being stationed there for a potentially limited amount of time. Bethel has been a steady source of leadership for the Tigers in preceding years and will look to help the team reach the district playoffs and a shot at the state tournament. Continue reading for a look at Brandon’s skills across the board.
Defense: Bethel is a solid defender for Mountain Home. He matches up well against other guards and uses his athleticism to keep them in front. He has great footwork that he uses to cut off driving lanes and has quick hands that he uses to tap the ball away from opposing guards with a weak handle on the ball. Away from the ball, Bethel has a great feeling for help side defense and is always in the right spot to help his teammates if they happen to get beat. Against bigs, Bethel does not back down and fights for positioning in the post. He battles hard to front or work his way around whenever he is switched onto a post player. For his position, Bethel is a solid rebounder that likes to crash the boards whenever a shot goes up.
Offense: Brandon is a great offensive player for the Tigers. Night in and night out, Bethel draws the opposing teams’ toughest defender and often ends up facing a double team as well. He has committed himself to staying in great shape to be able to play large minutes and to will himself to score when the Tigers need offense. He has a solid jump shot from outside that he knocks down consistently. One of the best aspects of his game is his ability to dribble out of tough spots and into scoring opportunities at the rim or on a pull-up. His mid-range game is effective and he finishes very well around the rim with either hand. Bethel plays the game with a calm demeanor and never panics when he is on the court. He is also a great passer who is willing to get his teammates the shots they need and will pass up a good shot for a great shot.
Overall: Altogether, Bethel is a great young player and he will continue to get better in the following two seasons. He is a solid defender that will get the job done no matter who he guards. On offense, he is a threat at all levels and is not afraid to have to carry the team if needed. As Bethel continues to progress, I would not be surprised to see him become one of the best guards in the state.
