While I was not personally in attendance for this event, I watched most of the contests via the BallerTV streaming service. Below is my first set of standout players from the 2023/2024 classes.
Sebastian Mack Sebastian Mack 6'4" | CG Coronado | 2023 State #58 Nation NV , 2023, Vegas Elite: Mack is a dynamic scoring guard and playmaker who moves on the floor and creates shots for himself far beyond his years. The 6-foot-1 sophomore out of Durango high school in Las Vegas uses his speed and quick first step to blow-by defenders in the half-court setting, but also creates space into a balanced jumper off the bounce.
Ahmaree McCullough, 2023, Team Arsenal: McCullough is a tough and physical guard on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he’s lightning quick in transition and uses his strong shoulders and compact frame to get into the body of a defender and finish efficiently around the basket despite his smaller stature. McCullough is a hard-nosed on-ball defender with quick hands, feet and great energy on that side of the floor.
Jimmy Oladokun, 2023, Prodigy Elite: Oladokun played spot minutes as a freshman on a very good Damien high school team, but he should see an increase of court time based on his performance in this event. The 6-foot-7 forward displayed versatile inside-out scoring ability with a face-up 15-17 foot set shot and a low-post skill set with soft touch with either hand. Oladokun still has some work to do on the rim protecting and rebounding front, but with his length and athleticism, that should come over time.
Jordan Ross Jordan Ross 6'3" | PG Link Academy | 2023 #132 Nation MO , 2023, Salt Lake Rebels: Ross is as smooth and crafty as point guard you’ll find on the west coast. His ability to change speeds and direction on a dime allow him to navigate his way through traffic and into the paint where can score with a crafty finish or throw a pinpoint pass to a teammate. What stands out most about Ross’ game ire his basketball IQ, ability to control pace and tempo, and limit turnovers while sporting a high usage rate.
Parker Strauss, 2023, Ocean City Hoops: Strauss is one of the best young guards in the Orange County area. The lanky 6-foot-2 sophomore combo guard played on the 17u level in this event and fit right in to the physicality and speed of the game. Strauss is a smooth ball handler with a fluid and consistent perimeter shot. Strauss also has an impressive middle game complete with a soft-touch floater.
