While I was not personally in attendance for this event, I watched most of the contests via the BallerTV streaming service. Below are my third set of 2022 standouts from the event.
RJ Smith RJ Smith 6'4" | CG Damien | 2022 State CA-S , Prodigy Elite: Smith has continued to improve parts of his game in each season as a high school prospect. The 6-foot-4 wing is a tremendous offensive and defensive rebounder for his size and position and is capable of guarding multiple spots. Offensively, Smith has come long way over the last two seasons. He went from a second chance opportunity scorer to a guy who can knock down an open catch and shoot look, pull up off of one or two dribbles and knock down a jumper, or slash his way to the paint for a transition finish.
Joel Speckman II, Billups Elite: In today’s game it’s rare to see a traditional big man take center stage in a game, but this 6-foot-8 forward/center showed plenty of skill on the block. Speckman has great hands in the painted area and stellar touch with either hand around the basket. His back to the basket arsenal, coupled with his ability to face up and shoot, made him a tough cover during this event.
Jaylen Thompson, Team Arsenal: Thompson is a highly-regarded junior who burst onto the scene at last year’s Pangos Frosh/Soph camp as a bonafide Division I prospect. The 6-foot-6 wing has an incredibly long frame that projects well at the next level and beyond, but it’s what he does with that length and athleticism that makes him such an intriguing prospect. Thompson is an efficient finisher in transition, whether it’s with his layup package or above the rim. Defensively, he projects as a guy with potential lockdown ability and plenty of versatility.
Oziyah Sellers Oziyah Sellers 6'3" | SG Modesto Christian | 2022 #162 Nation CA-S , Team Arsenal: Sellers is a super smooth scorer with a high basketball IQ and great combo guard feel. The 6-foot-4 junior knocked down triples and pull-up jumpers with fluid and efficient shooting mechanics, while also showing he can initiate offense with precision and great decision-making. Sellers’ recruiting interest is picking up rapidly and is a guy who should certainly be on the Division I radar.
Quinton Webb Quinton Webb 6'7" | PF Etiwanda | 2022 State CA-S , Border Boyz: Webb is one of the more athletic wing forward’s on the west coast regardless of class. The 6-foot-5 junior, who transferred from Loma Linda Academy to San Ysidro, is a dynamic transition finisher who can slash his way to the bucket for high percentage scores or provide a highlight reel dunk off of a lob. Webb uses his combination of size, length and athleticism to rebound the defensive glass well and contest shots around the basket.
