While I was not able to be physically in attendance at the Nets on Fire facility, I caught most of the action via the BallerTV livestream and will go through a long list of top performers, sleepers and stock raisers from the camp. Below is my third set of top performers.
Damion McDowell Damion McDowell 6'6" | PF St. Bernard | 2021 State CA-S , 2021, St. Bernard (CA) – McDowell, who committed to Rice in the spring, is a jack-of-all-trades type of prospect who isn’t afraid of doing the dirty work to help his team win. The 6-foot-6 forward changes ends of the floor well in transition, has great hands and touch around the basket, and can step out and knock down a 15-foot face-up jumper. McDowell’s next-level ready skills are his rebounding and ability to guard multiple positions.
Devon Barnes, 2021, St. Frances Academy (MD) – Barnes has great scoring feel at the point guard position and is especially effective with his jump shot. The 6-foot-1 senior gets to his spots with ease off the bounce, elevates with good balance, and releases with a soft touch and fluid shooting mechanics. Barnes is also a great transition creator where he uses his speed and elusiveness to get in the paint and put pressure on the defense.
Jaden Winfield, 2021, Riverside King (CA) – Winfield joins the Southern California hoops scene after transferring from Chaminade in St. Louis (MO). Based on what we saw in this event, the 6-foot-5 wing will bring explosive finishing ability, transition athleticism and physicality and toughness to Riverside King where he plans to enroll. We’re looking forward to getting more time to evaluate Winfield in-person when the season resumes.
Wilhelm Breidenbach Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'8" | PF Mater Dei | 2021 State #91 Nation CA-S , 2021, Mater Dei (CA) – There’s nothing we haven’t already written about Breidenbach that he didn’t do at this camp. The versatile 6-foot-9 forward is your prototypical inside-out scoring threat who has touch with either hand around the basket and can operate with his back to the rim or out of a face-up setting. Breidenbach continues to add consistency to his three-point shot and is a great positional rebounder whose ball skills and passing ability allow him to lead transition opportunities.
Alpha Chibambe Alpha Chibambe 6'4" | SF JSerra | 2022 CA-S , 2022, JSerra (CA) – Chibambe could be one of the bigger stock raisers come next CIF Southern Section season. The 6-foot-4 wing is an explosive and strong athlete who thrives in the open court. The junior is best as a slasher and finisher at this point as he can catch, rise and finish through or above contact. Chibambe’s combination of strength and lateral speed helps him guard just about every position on the floor at the high school level.
