While I was not able to be physically in attendance at the Nets on Fire facility, I caught most of the action via the BallerTV livestream and will go through a long list of top performers, sleepers and stock raisers from the camp. Below is my second set of top performers.
Jaden Byers Jaden Byers 6'1" | PG Rancho Christian | 2021 State CA-S , 2021, Rancho Christian (CA) – Byers is one of the more dynamic athletes at the guard position that Southern California has to offer. The quick and crafty lefty is great in transition where he pushes the basketball with purpose and has no issues getting paint touches and high percentage looks at the basket. Byers has sprouted up an inch or two to 6-feet-2, further cementing his place as a Division I caliber point guard.
Jeremiah Nyarko Jeremiah Nyarko 6'7" | PF St. John Bosco | 2022 State #209 Nation CA-S , 2022, St. John Bosco (CA) – Nyarko was one of the top scorers in the Cream of the Crop Top 25 game. The 6-foot-8 junior is a strong and bouncy athlete with an ideal frame for a power forward prospect. Nyarko can finish in the paint through contact or above the rim with a powerful dunk. The St. John Bosco product also showed the continued evolution of his perimeter game as a guy who can hit a 10-15 foot fade away jumper.
JQ Strong JQ Strong 6'7" | SF Villa Park | 2022 State CA-S , 2022, St. Bernard (CA) – Strong has really turned the corner from prospect to production over the last few months. After spending his freshman season at Orange Lutheran, the 6-foot-7 forward made the move to St. Bernard where his all-around skill-set began to take shape. Strong, son of NBA veteran Derek Strong, has a really nice combination of soft hands, springy legs and face-up shooting ability that project well to the next level.
AJ Burgin AJ Burgin 6'3" | CG San Diego | 2021 State CA-S , 2021, San Diego (CA) – You have to love the do-it-all mindset and skill-set of the San Diego High senior. Burgin, who recently committed to Idaho State, made a number of impressive passes both in the half-court and transition settings. There were many instances of the 6-foot-3 guard grabbing a defensive board and dropping a perfectly timed and place outlet pass to a streaking teammate for a layup. And, of course, Burgin knocked down plenty of deep jumpers both off the catch and off the bounce.
Joshua Jefferson Joshua Jefferson 6'8" | PF Liberty | 2022 State #158 Nation NV , 2022, Liberty (NV) – The skilled low-post prospect continued to dazzle with his great hands, footwork and touch with either hand around the basket. The Liberty junior showed off a couple other skills in his arsenal whether it was his rim protection and rebounding or his passing ability out of the low and high post positions.
