A look at some of the best scorers from the 2021 class over the summer that I was able to see.
6-7 W Matt Cleveland – Atlanta Celtics – Pace Academy – Florida State
The five-star prospect rose his game to another level this offseason, showcasing an improved jump shot to go along with his unstoppable downhill mentality. Cleveland created off the dribble and hit tough shots from the mid-range and beyond, all while keeping a high-energy productivity on defense, getting into passing lanes and blocking shots.
6-10 F Jabari Smith Jabari Smith 6'10" | PF Sandy Creek | 2021 State #5 Nation GA II – Atlanta Celtics – Sandy Creek
Jabari Smith Jabari Smith 6'10" | PF Sandy Creek | 2021 State #5 Nation GA II could dominate games in a loud fashion or do so quietly, getting his points in bunches while making it look easy without needing to put anyone on a poster to do so. He always lets the game come to him and doesn’t force the issue on offense. Smith scores efficiently on the block, the mid-range and from three. His turnaround jumper is one of the toughest shots to defend in the nation. He should expect a phone call from McDonald’s in a few months.
6-5 W Bobby Moore Bobby Moore 6'5" | SF McEachern | 2021 State GA – NME/Sniper Elite – McEachern
While he wasn’t always the most efficient, there is no denying that Bobby Moore Bobby Moore 6'5" | SF McEachern | 2021 State GA is a bucket. Moore can bulldoze his way into the paint with his powerful build and loves to meet ill-advised defenders at the rim that decide to jump with him. He’s a streaky outside shooter, but he’s proven that if you leave him open from deep, he can and will burn you. Once he cleans up his shot selection, Moore can do even more damage on offense. Not many can match his natural skills.
6-6 SG Kowacie Reeves Kowacie Reeves 6'6" | SG Westside-Macon | 2021 State #65 Nation GA Jr. – Team GA Magic – Westside-Macon – Florida
A silky-smooth scorer that has improved his all-around game each and every year, Reeves has solidified himself as a three-level shot maker. Once primarily a three-point specialist, Reeves has worked hard to diversify his game. The finished product is a long shooting guard that can catch fire from deep, score over top of defenders in the mid-range and now breakdown his man off the dribble and finish with strength. Reeves has added a low post game as well. With the offense solely running through him his senior season, it will be exciting to see what type of offensive outbursts Kowacie will light up this year.
6-2 CG Emondre Bowles Emondre Bowles 6'2" | PG Johnson-Savannah | 2021 State GA – Savannah Select – Johnson-Savannah
Emondre Bowles Emondre Bowles 6'2" | PG Johnson-Savannah | 2021 State GA could not be stopped in his short time with Savannah Select. He’s emerged as Savannah’s most consistent player. Bowles scores, distributes and defends at a high level. Emondre gets the rim at will with his shifty aggressiveness. He has a three-point shot that keeps defenses honest. Colleges have started to pay more attention to the prolific guard and with another monster season ahead of him, offers should start pouring in.
6-6 W Kervens Yacinthe Kervens Yacinthe 6'5" | SF Paulding County | 2021 State GA – SBT – Paulding County
Kervens Yacinthe Kervens Yacinthe 6'5" | SF Paulding County | 2021 State GA will be the designated scorer in the Paulding County offense. He won Class 5A Most Improved Player after jumping from 2.6 points to 21.5 points a night and with the graduation of Keon Sedgwick Keon Sedgwick 6'1" | PG Paulding County | 2020 State GA , those numbers could rise even higher. Kervens is an unorthodox lefty that fills it up from deep. Once he hits a few shots, he can slice his way into the lane to get to his patented left-handed kiss off the glass, a shot that’s extremely difficult to defend with his length. While his ball handling and defense have room for growth, there’s no denying that Yacinthe deserves to be on this list as one of the best scorers of the summer.
6-5 SG Camron McDowell Camron McDowell 6'5" | SG McEachern | 2021 State #172 Nation GA – Team Dickerson – McEachern
Cam McDowell’s competitive fire is the first thing that jumps off the screen when watching him. Yes, even more so than his elite athleticism. McDowell is vocal on the floor whether it be trash talk or holding his teammates accountable. Cam is a dog that you want on your team. His alpha male mentality shines through when he assaults the rim. His explosiveness gets him to the basket in the blink of an eye where he makes highlights happen. He shot the ball well from distance this summer, making him the complete package on offense.
6-6 W Jaylen Jackson Jaylen Jackson 6'6" | SF Greenforest | 2021 State GA – Game Elite – Greenforest – North Carolina A&T
The freak athlete just keeps getting better and better. I feel like he’s got All-Conference upside at North Carolina A&T. Instead of just using his athleticism for baskets up close and straight-line drives, Jackson is now creating on the perimeter and hitting pull-up jumpers from all over. At Battle For Georgia he even showcased an improved ability to get others involved as a playmaker.
