Here are some of the top point guards:
Trey Brandt Trey Brandt 6'1" | PG Beulah | 2022 State ND , Beulah
Brandt took his game to an all-state level as a sophomore, averaging 21 points, six rebounds and four assists for a Beulah team that won the Region 7 title for the third year in a row. He had a solid (albeit shortened due to injury) grassroots showing, excelling as a defender and role player with the Pentagon Schoolers. He’s a grinder on both ends of the floor and just so steady.
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND , West Fargo
Hegerle is one of the most talented players in the 2022 class and should be one of the best players in the EDC over the next two years. He’s a big, athletic lead guard who can defend three positions, get out in transition and make plays for his teammates. The only thing missing from his game at this point is a reliable jumper. If he adds that to his repertoire, he’s an all-state guy.
Joe Buzalsky, Bismarck Legacy
Buzalsky was a role player for the Sabers last year, averaging nearly five points and three assists off the bench. On a team with great depth and a lot of solid pieces, his counting numbers may not jump off the page this winter, but he’s a terrific all around player. He gets to the paint as well as anybody and he’s efficient from the mid-range and around the rim. He’s a sound facilitator who can set up his teammates. And he’s an active defender.
Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND , Fargo Davies
Motschenbacher is going to be a popular breakout pick in the EDC this winter, and after a solid showing on the grassroots circuit, he looks capable of emerging as one of the top lead guards in the state. He’s a heady playmaker with deep range, good size and the ability to get to the paint and finish in traffic.
Parker Nelson Parker Nelson 5'11" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND , West Fargo
Nelson was one of the most impressive players on the 16U ECI team this past summer in what was an undoubtedly abbreviated grassroots season. Still, the 6-foot lead guard showed he’s got a lot to offer on both ends of the floor. He’s a good shooter with the burst to get to the paint and make plays, and he gets after people on the defensive end of the floor.
