Here are a few guys who earned spots after being previously unranked:
Zander Albers Zander Albers 6'5" | PF Bismarck Legacy | 2022 State ND , Bismarck Legacy
Albers was one of the top sophomores in the WDA last season, averaging better than nine points and about six rebounds for Bismarck Legacy. He showed a little bit of everything, shooting it from the 3-point line relatively well, scoring off the dribble, rebounding and defending. He’ll have a big role this winter for a Sabers team that should be among the best in Class A.
Treysen Eaglestaff Treysen Eaglestaff 6'5" | SF Bismark | 2022 State ND , Bismarck
Eaglestaff burst onto the scene as a sophomore, averaging better than 12 points per game for a Bismarck team that reached the state semifinals before the season was cut short. He was inconsistent at times, but showed he’s capable of filling it up and carrying an offense for stretches. At 6-foot-5, Eaglestaff has the size and athleticism to play on the wing and defend multiple positions. He’s one of the highest potential players in the 2022 class after the top few guys.
Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND , West Fargo Sheyenne
Nhial saw some mop up action as a sophomore for the Mustangs and showed there’s some serious potential to his game. He looked good during the summer playing with ECI too, providing perimeter shooting, interior defense and strong effort. At 6-foot-6, he’s got the skills to be a matchup problem for a lot of people.
Ethan Morin Ethan Morin 6'2" | SG Dunseith | 2022 State ND , Dunseith
Morin had an excellent sophomore season for the Dragons, averaging 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Then he spent the abbreviated grassroots season with ND Phenom. He’s one of the better shooters in the 2022 class and as he’s gotten older, he’s added more and more off-the-dribble juice to his game. Look for him to put up huge numbers as an upperclassman.
Aaron Grubb Aaron Grubb 6'3" | PF Mandan | 2022 State ND , Mandan
Grubb didn’t see much varsity time last winter but looked terrific over the summer on the grassroots circuit with the top ECI 16U team. He’s a strong faceup four man with a soft touch in the mid-range and the short-area quickness to abuse guys off the dribble from the wing and high post areas. He’ll be a key piece for a Mandan team that should be competitive in the WDA.
Carter Englund Carter Englund 6'7" | PF Shiloh Christian | 2022 State ND , Shiloh Christian
Englund was a starter on a very good Shiloh Christian team last winter and looks like a potential all-region guy as a junior. He’s 6-foot-6 with the mobility and athleticism to defend on the perimeter and protect the rim, rebound out of his area and score in transition. He’s a skilled post player with a soft touch. He’s a guy to keep an eye on in Class B this winter.
Paul Olson Paul Olson 6'3" | SF Kindred | 2022 State ND , Kindred
Olson enjoyed a solid sophomore season for the Vikings and continued his ascension over the summer playing with ECI. He’s a 6-foot-3 combo forward with athleticism to defend on the perimeter plus the strength and toughness to mix it up inside. He’s got a decent feel and enough perimeter skill to create his own shot off the bounce. Look for him to have a breakout year this winter.
