Here are a few guys who moved up the rankings:
Jayce Lowman Jayce Lowman 6'3" | SG Mandan | 2021 State ND , Mandan
Upon further review, Lowman should’ve been ranked higher when the last version of rankings came out. The Mandan swingman is one of the best 15 players in the 2021 class and while he might not going to wow people in the warmups, he’s just so solid in every area of the game. He’s a terrific perimeter shooter who has a lot more off-the-dribble game than he showed during his high school season. And he’s a sound decision-maker who can make plays for guys. He’s bigger than you think too, which helps him defend three perimeter positions successfully.
Tristin Davis Tristin Davis 6'2" | PG Turtle Mountain | 2021 State ND , Turtle Mountain
Davis was another guy that was clearly ranked way too low earlier in the summer because he looked like one of the top guards in North Dakota during the grassroots season. He’s big, he’s athletic and he is a grinder on both ends of the floor. He uses his size and length to his advantage on the defensive end of the floor, fighting over screens and contesting shots against bigger or smaller guards. He is one of the best rebounding guards in the state and can trigger transition opportunities. And his ability to slither into the paint and either find teammates or elevate to finish is as good as any lead guard in the 2021 class.
Jacksen Moni Jacksen Moni 6'9" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , West Fargo Sheyenne
Moni’s rise from top-10 guy to No. 3 in the 2021 rankings might not be much when it comes to his standing in the class, but he showed a lot of promise playing with ECI in an abbreviated grassroots season. He showed signs of being a strong defender last year with West Fargo Sheyenne, but he took that to another level this summer, anchoring the defense and protecting the paint on a team that played four guards/wings on a regular basis. He isn’t a big shot-blocker, but his ability to contest and alter shots inside has a big influence on the game. He rebounds his area as well as any big in the class and he’s talkative. Even if he’s never more than a complementary player on the offensive end of the floor, he’s a net positive impact player because of his ability to control the game defensively.
Alex Huber Alex Huber 6'6" | SF Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier | 2021 State ND , Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier
Huber made another decent jump in the rankings thanks to a solid summer showing with ND Attack. On an undersized ND Attack team, he was playing a bit out of position as a center, but he more than held his own. He’s got a motor that runs hot and his activity level around the rim allows him to produce at a high rate simply running the floor, screening and rebounding. He’s got solid footwork in the post and his jumper, while streaky, has to be respected.
Mason Martinson Mason Martinson 5'11" | PG Oak Grove | 2021 State ND , Oak Grove
Martinson had a decent junior season with Oak Grove, averaging better than 10 points per game while showing solid defensive chops and inconsistent offensive results. In an abbreviated AAU season with the Pentagon Schoolers though, he was terrific. He showed great defensive energy, hounding opposing ballhandlers while also being in great position to help out teammates. And on the offensive end, he looked better shooting it from deep, combining it with the explosiveness to get to the paint.
