With that in mind, here’s a look at the top duos in Class A:
Tristin Davis Tristin Davis 6'2" | PG Turtle Mountain | 2021 State ND and Wyatt Enno Wyatt Enno 6'2" | SF Turtle Mountain | 2021 State ND , Turtle Mountain
Turtle Mountain should be one of the most improved teams in Class A this upcoming season with Davis and Enno leading the way.. Enno was one of the best sophomores in the state two years ago but a knee injury last summer cost him his junior year. In his absence, Davis emerged as one of the best players in the league, averaging 15 points, nearly seven rebounds and five assists. Both guys looked outstanding during the abbreviated grassroots season and could be among the league leaders in scoring in the WDA.
Carson Lamp Carson Lamp 6'0" | SG Jamestown | 2021 State ND and Brooks Carroll Brooks Carroll 6'3" | SF Jamestown | 2021 State ND , Jamestown
Jamestown reached the state semifinals last year despite its best player being out with an injury because Lamp and Carroll were both awesome. Lamp is arguably the best lead guard in the league and took on more ballhandling responsibility as the season went on while Carroll was an absolute dead-eye shooter all season. The two combined to average more than 35 points per game in the postseason and give Jamestown an elite-level perimeter punch.
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND and Carter Birrenkott Carter Birrenkott 6'5" | PF West Fargo | 2021 State ND , West Fargo
West Fargo is losing two double-figure scorers from a year ago, but the Packers should be among the better teams in the EDC because of Hegerle and Birrenkott. As a sophomore, Hegerle averaged about 11 points and just less than four assists while Birrenkott averaged 11 points and about six rebounds. Both guys need to take their games up a notch if the Packers are going to contend, but they are both capable. For Hegerle, it’s the perimeter jumper. He’s a terrific slasher and excellent in transition, so if he can get to a point where defenses have to respect his jumper, he’ll be a problem. Birrenkott should benefit from having more space to operate inside, as his skill in the mid and high posts are hard to handle for a lot of teams.
Jacksen Moni Jacksen Moni 6'9" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND and Barika Kpeenu Barika Kpeenu 5'11" | PG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2021 State ND , West Fargo Sheyenne
West Fargo Sheyenne is losing three double-figure scorers from a team that reached the state semifinals. All three were perimeter players – which means the Mustangs will have to undergo a bit of an identity shift. The strength of the team, even more so this upcoming winter, should be its defense. At the head of that is Kpeenu, who is a terrific perimeter defender at the point. At the back end, it’s Moni, who is capable of controlling the paint defensively. Both guys should see an uptick in offensive workload as well, and even if that ascension is met with ups and downs, the defensive prowess of those two should be enough for the Mustangs to contend in the EDC.
