The roster count had 28 to 30 hopeful NorCal prospects who made the trip from NorCal to Utah in hopes of elevating their status as college prospects. Thanks to BallerTV, I was able to watch NorCal players who I thought stood out at this event. This list contains the top Norcal players who played their way into the 3 Cream of the Crop Games.
Donjae Lindsey Donjae Lindsey 6'2" | CG Weston Ranch | 2021 State CA-N 6’1 Guard 2021, Weston Ranch (Stockton, CA)
Lindsey continues to establish himself as one of the top guards in NorCal 2021 class, and rising on the West Coast. His overall all performance has been on the rise since last season. An athletic guard with good speed and quickness, Lindsey has improved his shooting form and has become a consistent shot maker whether driving or shooting jumpers. He’s a top notch defender. Top 50 game participant
Davion Wright Davion Wright 6'3" | SG Franklin | 2022 CA-N 6’3 Guard 2022, Franklin (Elk Grove, CA)
Wright a solid body prospect has one of the better mid-range games in NorCal, he can take you off the dribble, pull-up from any angle, and hit jumpers with some consistency. He’s a legitimate scoring guard with 3pt range and plenty of skills and athleticism to be an effective player at the next level. Top 50 game participant
Jeremiah Dargan Jeremiah Dargan 6'4" | CG Clayton Valley Charter | 2022 State CA-N 6’4 Guard/Wing 2022, Clayton Valley Charter (Concord, CA)
The long slender Dargan showed his versatility at this event, One game he ran the point guard, another game he was effective working on the wings knocking down 3’s, and taking it strong off the drive. He ran the floor in transition for a couple of nice throw down dunks. Dargan’s length allowed him to guard players on the wings and handle taller players in the post. He rebounded and started the transition break. The transfer from De La Salle High in Concord will show his versatility at Clayton Valley Charter this upcoming season. Top 50 game participant
Ron Jones Jr 6’7 Forward 2022, Oakland Tech Oakland, CA)
Every year a NorCal player has a coming out party at this event, this year it’s Jones Jr. He’s is a tough minded player who plays with a chip on his shoulder, he ain’t backing down. He has broad shoulders, long arms, and a frame that’s going to fill out in time. He battled with the best of the bigs at this camp. Jones has an improving skill set. I liked his work 15ft and in. He was effective around the basket with decent foot work and body control. He showed good form shooting beyond the 3, he made a few, and his versatility in transition, rebounding, ball handling, and running the floor in transition. A rising player in the NorCal 2022 class. Top 50 game participant
Jake Overbay Jake Overbay 6'2" | SG Lincoln | 2022 State CA-N 6’2 Shooting Guard 2022, Lincoln ( Lincoln, CA)
Overbay is a Shooting guard that has to be accounted for with his ability to hit shots from a long distance, he extends the defense, opens lanes for teammates. He can go by you if you only play him for his shot. Hitting that long range shot with efficiency will see his stock rise. He’s on Wright’s watch list. Top 75 game participant
Mason Hudnall 6’6 Forward 2022, Dublin, (Dublin, CA)
Hudnall a long lanky prospect with plenty of upside. Long wing span with good movement on the court. Plays team ball, a solid defender on the perimeter, a good passer, he fills the lanes in transition. His skill set will improve, he has all the making of a sleeper who’ll get better overtime. Top 75 game participant.
Yaqub Mir Yaqub Mir 6'3" | SG Granite Bay | 2023 State CA-N 6’1 Shooting Guard 2023 Granite Bay CA.
Mir, a feisty competitor who goes all out on both ends. A confident shooter who can knock down open 3’s. Mir has good flow to his game always looking to take advantage of a mistake. He see’s the floor and anticipates well. He’s on Wright’s watch list. Top 50 game participant.
Two 2024 Standout Performers
Ty Virgil 6’2 2024 Guard Franklin High School in Elk Grove and Jamari Phillips 6’2 Guard 2024 Modesto Christian in Modesto CA. These two Freshman represented NorCal in a big way at this event. Phillips played his way into The Top 50 game when he put on a shooting display in one of his games. I counted him making 7 three’s in one contest. Virgil showed that he’s going have to be accounted for with his overall play. His skill set is there, his ability to score and run an offense is there. He played his way into The Top 75 game. Both of these young prospects showed a level of confidence that goes beyond their age. I look forward to seeing these two perform with their varsity team.
