Although this group wasn’t selected to play in the 3 Cream of The Crop games. I thought they represented NorCal well with their play. They’ll be big contributors for their high school teams in NorCal.
Josh Wolf-Bloom Josh Wolf-Bloom 6'4" | SF Bellarmine College Prep | 2021 State CA-N 6’5 Guard/Wing 2021 Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose, CA)
Wolf-Bloom a good sized guard at 6’5 with underrated handles and passing ability got the opportunity to show his guard skills at this event. He handled the full court pressure, eyes up with good vision to see the whole court and excellent passing, whether to the post or open players on the wings. He got into the lane for good finishes. He’s put in a lot of work on his shooting form, and range. It’s coming along as well, he shot the jumper without hesitation.
Aidan Sevilla 6’1 Guard, 2021 Dougherty Valley ( San Ramon, CA)
Sevilla has bulked up and has grown taller since the last time I saw him. He excels in the open court format, where he can utilize his first step and quickness to blow by defenders. He has multiple moves to keep the big guys off balance on drives, including the floater, the opposite hand and foot moves he uses from different angles to score. You have to respect his ability to hit the outside shot.
Josiah Johnson 5’9 Point guard, 2023 Sheldon ( Elk Grove, CA)
Johnson can be an absolute pest on the defensive end, his low stance, upper body strength, and lateral foot work makes him a disruptive defender and makes the ball handler work hard to get the ball up court. The 2023 guard has some skills on offense as well, he’s a physical guard who can get into the paint on the penetration and finish through contact or use the kick out pass to find open shooters.
Carter Miles 6’3 Guard 2022 McClatchy (Sacramento, CA)
Miles has a long wingspan and is as scrappy as they come. He gives good effort on both ends of the court. He needs to bulk up a bit, and it looks like he’ll grow a few more inches. A good conditioned player who can play at a fast pace. He’s in the 2022 class, his skill set will improve. He hit a few 3’s and he drove the baseline with some success, he’ll go after rebounds, a decent passer. Wright’s watch list.
Taj Phillips Taj Phillips 5'9" | PG Bishop O'Dowd | 2021 State CA-N 5’9 Point guard Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, CA)
Phillips a high IQ pass first point guard. He’s bulked up a bit and showing more of a willingness to keep the defense honest, by being more aggressive when he has the ball. He had several strong drives to the paint, handling the contact, and a willingness to take that open shot when left unguarded. This will add balance to his overall game.
Cole Despie 6’3 Shooting guard 2021 Bellarmine college Prep (San Jose, CA)
Despie has shown he can be a knockdown 3 point shooter when he gets it going, he didn’t hit as many as he would’ve liked to at this event, nevertheless he can shoot it, and has to be accounted for out on the perimeter in NorCal. He has a good release. He has good size, and strength, good enough handles that him get into the lane, and draw fouls if the defense over plays his shooting.
