This was a great opportunity for NorCal Prospects to compete, and gain some exposure playing against the top players on the West Coast. This list includes four players who played their way into the Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game, and one who played in the Top 50 game.
Varick Lewis 6’3 Combo Guard, Monterey Trail (Elk Grove, CA)
Lewis was one the most productive prospects from NorCal. His combo guard skills were on display throughout the event. Each game he became more effective and assertive as player. A player who can make shots from behind the three point line, Lewis showed he has the ability to be a quality playmaker, who involved his teammates with quality passes, and create his own scoring opportunities. I thought he found his rhythm. He had good balance, never out of control, played with good pace, and made good decisions with the ball. One of NorCal’s Top 2023’s, and rising prospect in California.
Tyler Harris Tyler Harris 6'6" | SF Granada | 2023 State #210 Nation CA-N 6’7 G/W/P Newark Memorial (Newark, CA)
It’s hard to nail down what position Harris actually plays. He has untapped potential, and is on the verge of displaying at some point, remember he’s a 2023 with three years to mature and develop his skills. His square shoulders and long wingspan are noticeable. He obviously will have to bulk up a bit, but the potential is there to be a next level prospect. At this event he showed versatility. He has some guard skills, and is comfortable on the wings, his mid-range game needs work, he had some success on the drive to the bucket. His length in the box makes him a proven scorer when he’s in there, a soft touch around the basket, and can easily throw down off two at the rim.
Courtney Anderson Courtney Anderson 6'4" | SG Dublin | 2023 State #151 Nation CA-N Jr. 6’4 Shooting guard, Dublin (Dublin, CA)
Anderson Jr, entered this event known as a quality shooter from three, with a good mid-range game. At this event, he got the chance to show not only that he can make the shots he takes, but also his improved ball handling skills, and creating his own shot. He split defenders, had good balance, and was effective going to the basket on occasion. He has a good feel for the game, and showed a willingness to defend on the perimeter, and rebound. He’s a transfer from Salesian Prep. He’s on Wright’s watch list.
Jamari Phillips 6’2 Guard, Modesto Christian (Modesto, CA)
Phillips picked up where he left off, at the All-West Camp two weeks ago when he was competing against top 2021 and 2022 players. Phillips was the only 2024 from NorCal to play his way into the Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game. He continues to show an advanced game for a Freshman. Right now his game sets him apart from other 2024 prospects in this class.
Ty Virgil 6’2 Guard, Franklin (Elk Grove, CA)
Virgil didn’t make the Top 30 Game, but he could have easily been chosen based on his performance at these two quality events. Like Phillips, Virgil continued to play beyond his 2024 class status. He played in the Top 60 Game and was productive throughout this 2 day event with his overall consistent play.
