There are so many players to observe, especially in a big state like Texas. Some guys just don’t get the same amount of attention that others are afforded. It may not be fair, but it’s reality.
With that in mind, I’d like to highlight some guards from the class of 2022 who have flown under the radar. Here are five names you need to know:
Reese Miller Reese Miller 6'0" | PG Round Rock | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’0’’ Combo Guard | THP Elite White 17U | Round Rock HS – Miller is a marksman from the outside. He can knock down threes from the catch or off the dribble. The Round Rock guard put on a shooting clinic earlier this year in Duncanville at the Southwest Slam, hitting triples at an extremely high clip. He can play at either guard spot, but I like him best at the point. He keeps all of his teammates involved on offense and has a knack for finding open shooters. There is a lot to like about his game.
Jaleen Goodman | 2022 | 5’10’’ Point Guard | Drive Nation Houston Cutter 17U | Summer Creek HS – Goodman is a lead guard with some flare to his style of play. He plays fast but under control. He is a dynamic ball handler with great speed in the open court. The 2022 floor general is a terrific playmaker. He contributes as a scorer within the flow of the offense, knocking down threes in rhythm or getting to the hoop when those opportunities present themselves. He is a ton of fun to watch.
Brandon Hardison | 2022 | 5’7’’ Point Guard | BYG Elite 2023 | Plano East HS – Hardison is a straight-up bucket-getter. This guy is wired to put the ball in the basket. He is a twitchy ball handler with tremendous quickness both in space and traffic. He scores from all three levels, including inside off the drive despite being on the shorter side. He is an acrobatic finisher in the interior who isn’t opposed to taking some punishment on his way to hole. His motor and fearlessness with the ball in his hands more than makes up for the height he surrenders on the court.
Matthew Oltrogee | 2022 | 5’10’’ Shooting Guard | HG Elite Chad | Argyle Liberty Christian School – Oltrogee is a catch-and-shoot specialist from behind the arc. He has a quick release on his jumper and moves well without the ball to free himself up for good looks from three-point land. The 5-foot-10-inch two-guard has the ability to drill pull-up triples but seems to be more comfortable shooting from the catch. Defenders better stick to Oltrogee when they are guarding him, otherwise he is going to light it up from deep.
Sterling William Curtis | 2022 | 6’3’’ Shooting Guard | HG Elite Chad | Lewisville HS – Curtis is a really solid two-way prospect. He makes open threes, buries mid-range jumpers, and finishes through contact at the basket. All that said, the 2022 guard impressed me the most with his defense. His disciplined nature at that end of the floor frustrates opposing ball handlers. Lewisville will be looking to replace the production of Keyonte George Keyonte George 6'5" | SG IMG Academy | 2022 State #4 Nation FL after his decision to transfer. They are going to need multiple players to fill the hole he left behind, and Curtis has the chance to be one of them.
